E34 Long shaft

i have problem finding 2nd hand E34 525i (A) 1996 long shaft. the coupling is rattling when rev and while driving the car is vibrating. been to a few chop shop in subang, sg bu;oh, ampang and puchong but no stock. thanks

i will not recommend to buy chop shop for this item.

reason : this is a 20 Years old + car. Most chop shop items will have been in bad condition and most probably bearings and coupling is seized!/ so you better off sending your old one for repair.

Coupling Rm240. Balancing another Rm250. Centre coupling another 200. and you get a NEW part.

How much was the labour charge to the workshop ? Do the rates above include all of that ?

i think labour was around 350

So that's a total of RM1050 for the job. That's 30% of the price of a new longshaft from auto bavaria (surprisingly their price is ok for this part). So this is definitely a good option. Thanks Alan.

Have you had an undercarriage inspection ?

A ten minute inspection with a good mechanic is far better than weeks of speculation. Longshaft problems especially can be seen easily by the practised eye most of the time. They should also be able to show or demonstrate it to you. No need to go to a specialist workshop for this.

And if you notice a problem please put up the pictures and/or video here if you can so we can all learn.

My e34 525i(m50tu) vibrates very badly at speeds above 100kmh.... and I was trying to figure out what could be the problem, now I clearly think it has to be the Long Shaft, thanks guys!
