Hi. Hi all. I have just bought a used 1996E34 which engine number is XXXXM659. After checking some sites, I understand that for 1996, the engine should M50, so does this number show that it is M50 engine?

I don't think they (BMW) produced any M50 engines since 1995, M52 engines were available since 1995 (for the 328, and the e36 325 and e34 520 and 525 ceased production in 1995, even though some old stocks were sold in 1996 first quarter).

Chances are the engine you bought is a M50TU (with Vanos). :)

Could be. The car was registered in April 1996. The seller did told me that the car was the last few E34 at that time. Good then I think.

Thanks a lot.

it dosen't say.. if it's M50 engine.. only thing to look at is the manifold or the 24v cylinder head...

your engine should have this number at the bottom of your serial number.

25 2S62..

regards.

Pussy (never thought I will call someone this),

Thanks. Will check when I get my car tomorrow.
