i'm driving a 91' e30 1.8. noticed this following problems.any sifu's can comment?:( 1)in the morning or when engine cold, can start my engine with one crank. but when engine warms up(later in the day), its super hard..i've to try 3-4 times while pressing my gas pedal to the max:eek: . what could be the reason?i read some other forums they say check the 'idle air stabiliser valve'. but i call BMW supplier, they dont have such a part. only got air valve, which is like 600bucks.anyone have this prob on e30? either my fuel or air not enough going into the engine, thats y can't start well i think.maybe the next problem will give a clue2)sometimes when i disengage the gear, like going to neutral or if i dont press the gas,esp after i rev the car a bit, like pecut and stuff, the engine will suddenly die. i restart (while the car is moving on highway!!),then die again when enter neutral, same thing happens like 5-6times then later ok:mad: . what can it be ah?stress man.3)last,sometimes in 2nd and 3rd gear i can't go past 3000rpm,its like stuck, tekan the gas also no response unless i change gear..so yeah,to those who can answer this 3 questions, would realyl help me out man.thanks:D p/s those bitches at M1 scratched my car while washing it,!@$#$^%^*( stress!then don't want to respray..babi betul..wanna polish and wax tak keluar, they try putting this and that also tak keluar, then want me to leave my car for them to 'repair' it.god knows how la.i told em to f**k off, i'm not leaving my car there.anyone can comment on M1,how are they in your opinion?:p

Where did u send your car to that they can't solve you problem???
There's an 'idle control valve' which regulates the idling... U might want the check all the rubber air hoses and pipes.

Anyway, check the Thursday Get Together thread. And join us if you can make it..

m1 in kayu ara..not the segambut one..i just found out got one in segambut while talking to the company driver..haha...hmm maybe m1 f**ked up my idling valve when they repaired my idling problem..aih..never ending la fix one problem lead to another problem..isn't there any reliable mechs out there!?!!?

well, like fabian said, do join the gang for tt session. You can seek opinion on many forumers here who has experience with M40. It's a pretty easy engine to work out and easy to diagnose.

You can check the following

1) ICV Hose
2) AFM
3) Vacumn hoses
4) trottle body

But your problem 2) and 3) sounds like AFM problem to me. As for item 1), it can be your starter motor.

elwine30, but for problem one,y is it starter motor?morning time crank one time jadi, during the day its hard..so how does the weather/time affect starter motor? and what is ICV and AFM?mahal ka to replace?and where to check to see the TT session ah?a bit blur.hehe

Sorry to hear your bad day story at M1 Kayu Ara, been there few little times servicing my e39...
service wise: soso,
workshop: big,quiet clean and organise,
handling cases: OKla,
price: expensiveLA!

When i had my e30 coupe(but M20 motronic) from 2005 till recently sold, i have tried stuttgard, bavarian auto(LOK), there is anothr bm workshop opposite road of kayu ara, and eventually BM Tech, subang. My advice for e30 car, you shld try not to go to those big boyz workshop. they can be stuck up sikit unless you are familiar with them. Especially these days they try to look on servicing newer model for a better marginal profit from parts & labour charges.
I even came across 1 BM workshop that only take model started from e39 and above. e36 pun tak layan!!
So old school small & medium size workshops are still the best place for older model.
Try Wong(some people called him Uncle Wong) USJ 1, he and POH used to be partners in BM TECH before. He does a lots older model and inplant engine for my e30 before.
cheerio!

try this few ideas, for you to check with your mech, dun say i said..

1)in the morning or when engine cold, can start my engine with one crank. but when engine warms up(later in the day), its super hard..i've to try 3-4 times while pressing my gas pedal to the max:eek: . what could be the reason?i read some other forums they say check the 'idle air stabiliser valve'. but i call BMW supplier, they dont have such a part. only got air valve, which is like 600bucks.anyone have this prob on e30? either my fuel or air not enough going into the engine, thats y can't start well i think.maybe the next problem will give a clue

fault: could be your fuel regulator or leaking injector or the cold start sensor.

2)sometimes when i disengage the gear, like going to neutral or if i dont press the gas,esp after i rev the car a bit, like pecut and stuff, the engine will suddenly die. i restart (while the car is moving on highway!!),then die again when enter neutral, same thing happens like 5-6times then later ok:mad: . what can it be ah?stress man.

fault: your speed sensor or the ICV is not receiving signal or dirty/stuck

3)last,sometimes in 2nd and 3rd gear i can't go past 3000rpm,its like stuck, tekan the gas also no response unless i change gear..so yeah,to those who can answer this 3 questions, would realyl help me out man.thanks:D

fault: your AFM is screwed up with your fuel regulator

p/s those bitches at M1 scratched my car while washing it,!@$#$^%^*( stress!then don't want to respray..babi betul..wanna polish and wax tak keluar, they try putting this and that also tak keluar, then want me to leave my car for them to 'repair' it.god knows how la.i told em to f**k off, i'm not leaving my car there.anyone can comment on M1,how are they in your opinion?:p

fault: find a new responsible mechanic.

maybe others can chip in..

Do search on DIY section on how to service your AFM. There is a post for this by one of our DIY sifu.
You have to dismental the AFM and open the cover to service it.
If you are not sure to DIY, better get the sifu to guide you.
I also do know a workshop that wiling to service the AFM at minimum charge.
