Hi Would like to clarified what type of battery can i use for my e30 m40. What i have in my car now is, din 66L.Have read some where that we can also use din 55.Can anyone also advice what is the current market price for normal type. Thanks

Din 55 or 66.Either one bro.Should be around Rm220 for Din 55 wet cell and 300 for yokohama Din 66 wet cell(last when i bought in July this year).

Thanks so next time i can go for a Din 55, just bought a Din 66 mf for RM240.

last one lasted me for 1 year only.

Stock size is Din55. actually the car comes with a small metal latch and bolt to secure the battery to the tray. but most were lost along the years...
Lucikly mine still has it when I bought the car. and it can only secure a Din55 battery bcos the hole is made for this size.

great infor, now i know what is it correct size......unfortunately to me, now the alternator has just give up onme to as of yesterday.

Driving half way the battery, hand brake and also the brake pad light lid on,upon reaching home, disconnect the negative terminal while the engine is running, it just die off immediately, guess it has confirm that the alternator is out, now the question is.

Anyone know where i can refirbish an alternator, and if cannot find one, howmuch is a recond or second hand would cost.

Need urgent update.

Cheers

as per the image, need some advice, what is the different of the second alternator having a small black plastic box, as my original unit comes with it, one more thing is even with a charging alternator, does removing the negative cable from the battery, the car will die of slowly........charging reading is 13.6V.

As my jap car if remove it will not die off.

Please advice.

first of all, you must remove the negative cable once the car is running, not the right way, you need to remove the positive cable.

if you do remove the cable once the engine is running, if the car dies, then the alternator is kaput. if not, but reading is 13.6v, then something is not right.
and i know why..

buy me a drink and i will tell you.

just joking, if the charge is not good back to the battery, that means the connector spiltter from the battery cable to the fuse, alternator and starter is corroded or got rust/dirt. if bad, then source for a new one or renew the whole cable.
but you must check with the volt meter between 2 points, one at the alternator output, and the other at battery cable spiltter. see the difference, should be reading at 14.2 above, not less. if at the alternator, then change it, not good recon model. if not then it's the cable.

btw, the above two alternator is the same, one older one newer. just make sure you have the pin outputs same.

cheers..

Thanks for the advice, if we do meet dont mine spending u a teh tarik. Well as for the checking of alternator, correct me if i am wrong, instead of removing the negative i should remove the positive ?

How can i check the charging output from the alternator, how should i tap it? as from the battery i can tap the negative and positive terminal, should i tap on both of the screw in the black bracket area as per the alternator picture earlier?

The black colour box is of no important ?

Advice is much appreciated.

it's not a DIY thing, you must check while the car is running... any wrong connection might have dire effects to the engine, ECU, etc.
you will need to test the positive cable output and to ground using a volt meter, either digital or analog ones.

leave it to a good mechanic can test for you.
