Anyone know how the temp gauges measure the tempreture. if 1/4 what is the temp reading, it is 60 C . if 1/2 what is the temp reading and if 3/4......the reason im asking this because, there is a temp switch at the radiator, where the funtion of the switch(the switch has two speed - it will trigger 1st speed fan at 91C and for 2nd speed is at 99C to start a aux fan.Mine car will start to triger 1 st speed when the temp gauges is at 3/4, it is normal??? or i need to change the temp switch. The fan clutch is OK and im just change a thermostat ( and my car still run hot - i suspect that happen because of the aux fan is not on after reach 1/2 temp gauges). I just wonder why after temp gauges reach more than half, aux fan still not on, or is it normal (i.e when the temp gauges reach at 3/4 than the 1st speed aux fan start and when temp gauges reach at red than 2nd speed aux fan on)i need you all help . thank you

The purpose of the aux fan:
1. for the aircond condensor cooling with the a/c on
2. as a backup fan if the viscous coupled fan fails

If your fan clutch on the viscous coupled fan works fine, the aux fan may never require to be in use. However here in our country the a/c is essential and therefore the aux fan is activated whenever the a/c is on.

On both my cars, the temp never goes beyond 1/2 mark (with a/c OFF).The fan clutch always cuts in.

My car's aux fan trigger only when the temp gauges reach at 3/4 (i.e according to temp diagram 229F (109C). Is it normal because according to the spec of the switch (the one that attached to the radiator) it should start 1 st speed of aux fan at 91C and 2nd speed at 99C.

Is it a normal simptom of the switch to be failure (need to be change) when it could not triger the aux fan at the right temp.

Need your help

Looks like my old problem, temperature runs up to 3/4. Quen, the 1st culprit for this case is thermostat stuck open. Does your car take sometime to warm up?hehehe. Next yeah you might think the fan clutch is working because its spinning but it does not lock up. Does your fan clutch locks when the temp is 1/2? How to know? Does your fan roaaaaaarrrrrrrrr when u increase rev?
I spent almost 1/2 a year figuring how to reduce my temperature since i bought the car last year and the auxilary fan was on all the time(they by pass it) And two new fan clutches i bought did not operate properly until one day i got fed up and fiddle with the new fan clutches (1 behr and 1 sachs). And it works after fiddling ehhehehe. Another thing you were saying about the thermoswitch.
The fact is that at 91deg C the fan will start spinnning slow if you don't turn on the A/C. But if you turn on A/C the 1st speed fan automatically turns on. 2nd stage fan kicks in when ur temp gauge reach 3/4, a loud fan will on. To me i think its too late hehehe. If you want a different fan switch, there is a 81~88 deg C thermal switch but i dont think you can find it. I got mine from internet from UUC and my 2nd stage fan kicks in between 1/2 and 3/4. Now my temp is always 1/2 and in traffic jams the most in between 1/2 and 3/4.
