Hi Guys, Need to ask a question abt duplicating keys since I only have one set.Heard that it may not be so simple as the ori key has a chip? Anyone care to elaborate on this? If I need to duplicate another set of keys how should I go about it?Thanks:)

Int.. sure got one..

1. take the key to AB with the original grant with you. must be under your name.
2. present it at the counter;
3. they will take down your particulars and update the database of your key into your system;
4. they will then tell you how much is it .. be prepared to faint.
5. wait for a day or for few hours.. they will copy or will just pass the new key to you.
6. if just pass the key, then will need to take your car and the codeless key to one of the workshops that has ModicIII or GT1 to program it.

Got it ..

Wah if need to go AB....wats the fainting price bro?

How to tell if it has the chip bro? I look at my key....looks normal only....just that the metal part is not like those Jap cars....its thicker...its like the key's grooves are laid on top of a metal piece (sorry bad desc)

Thanks Pussy

mine is a 89 model. surely no chip here. i think it helps your description of the metal part. thicker. specially engraved. this key cost me around RM50 to dupp. a chip version would cost like what.... 10x that?

what does the chip do? had my car had the system, i'll try my best to get it. got the function, dont use, wasted laa...

all the best integramania! integra... hmmmmmmm........ *wink* *wink*

yo....mine was a 94 525i and really didn't know that there was a chip version....bought it second hand with only one key and got it duplicated for RM50...but if chip then have to go back to AB I suppose.....

co-incidently was at AB glenmarie lst sat and ask bt duplicating my E39 immorberliser key. Yep as Pussy said: you need to have a proof of ownerships. If the car is still on loan with bank and registration card is still not with you, so a copy of that may relevant. Was told that its not kind of waiting at lounge kind of services. It may take days for verification ID at "achtung"(germany). Once the stock ready, you need to get your car reset on site as mentioned by Pussy.
The cost.....??? was told at least RM500 a copy. hehe..that why the tag line called..."SURE DRIVING YOU PLEASURE PUNYA"(ah beng style).
Imagine some people earn RM500 a month to support a family....RM500 for a copy of car KEY!!! What to do""" :D

just to add bit more.....
the truth was that, i've tried before duplicate this immoberliser key at this very experience locksmiths shop which have those sophisticated key machine copy. Guess what??? Hehe...its "WORK!!" :D Malaysia BOLeh!! Went to my car try to start...1st try(copy)...cant!:confused: Put in back my original and start.....OK(of cozla!) 2nd try(copy)...VROOM"" boleh lak!! :confused: :confused:
So moral of the story....."Malaysia TAK BOLEH!!" German Boleh!! this direct copy version will only works after the original one went in 1st. Without that sorry mate!! So the guy return back my RM80. He learned something that day and so do i.
This in-built chips does protect BMW cars from being intrude. Thy why most of BMW cars were either robbed or hijacked but rarely intruded.
Cheers!:cool:

i also want to ask,

can a non-chip system be installed with one?

i'm sure its a yes, but how much?
might also consider to put the system in an e36 (got cobra already)

there is also a system that we can put on the ceiling rear-view mirror. what does that do?

security at a price. is it worth it?

post ur key pic up ....

then will manage to tell u ....

last i ask is rm250 wit ews if the price still maintain ....

You are talking retrofitting an EWS system into your current ride which I presumed is non-ews.

EWS equipped cars use different ECUs and hence different wiring loom, different key (with chip) and also an additional EWS module below the dashboard (cigarette box size) and etc.

To retrofit this system into your ride, you need all the above and also the key (with the chip embedded inside) which have to be matching to the ECU. Otherwise it wouldnt start :)

What happens is when you insert the key, the chip will emit a signal which is then pick up by an in-built trasmitter and the signal is then send to the EWS module of which the signal is then change into a secret code of which only the ECU can decipher. IF the "code" is incorrect, the car wouldnt start.
