Duplicate/Extra Key

When bought from the previous owner, it never bug me to get an additional key/duplicates. But thought of getting one in case of the unthinkable ... . When asking at the normal shop, it seems that they can't do a duplicate to my car key. Is this true? or is it just this few shops don't know how. Do I have to go back to AB Glenmarie to do this? How much will it cost me?? Comments please
