F30 in Malaysia:- has only 2 years warranty (compared to Mercedes 4 years)- CKD version has 30 to 40% of locally manufactured parts- maps is 2010 versionanything else?

Percentage of local content in terms of what? Value, part count, or weight?

Are you sure that 30 - 40% parts count? That's a lot. I've no idea about this. Where did you get this information from?

Did your friend tell you if there's anything not right with the F30 model? Is the bulk of complaint about their product quality normal? Sorry, this is my first BMW. Not so sure what's the quality standard of this brand.

anything else?

my map is 2012 version...

2012 maps, i think its for the CKD version. if i am not mistaken.

in terms of quality, i am not too sure whats the difference between CKD and CBU. but i am assuming that CBU has more checks before approval? but typically (or at least people will perceive that fully imported products are of higher quality). Theoretically, BMW will insist that Malaysia use the same specced materials and same machinery to manufacture. whether we follow and adhere to the quality standards is another matter.

maybe other veterans or know-hows can elaborate?

BMW are no longer CKD in Malaysia. They are more SKD (Semi Knock Down). All parts are fully imported from oversea and assemble here at Inocom factory located at Kulim. Before the cars get to the customer, they are fully inspected and tested individually for any defects during assembly. The club have previously on 2 occasions organised visit to plant for OM to see how their car is assembled.

and YES, the assembly plant follow the same QC procedure as all oversea assembly plants.

I think only the glass panes are made in malaysia.

Will there be another trip to the Kulim plant scheduled? I would love to visit the plant and hope the BMWCM could facilitate another visit.
