Was DIY on my e46 M43 engine , changed the leaking oil filter for oil filter housing and also plastic water pipe below the inlet manifold. removed manifold and alternator. Before starting work, disconnect the battery at the back.

After fixing back, all is running smoothly but there seems to be no power/ electric coming to instrument cluster and ac panel.... now troubleshooting.

Any inputs and experience from sifus and those who have seen this ...... what else to check and try.

Many thanks

I had my instrument cluster burnt before (had it replaced) , but it doesnt affect my AC panel. Have you check all fuses?

Thx azel, fuses checked ...diagnostics points to no signal for inst cluster .... Sending in cluster for repair,if possible... Hope for some outcome next week .... It seems ac display temp is link to main inst cluster. Any other comments or info how to get replacement cluster most welcome.

Saw few used instrument cluster units for sale on mudah.my. Selling for rm400. Probably can nego cheaper, dunno how s the condition though. But i think it s not plug n play, need to do some software configuration, or so i was told.

Samething happened to my e46, replaced the battery and the instrument cluster is dead, I replaced with a used one cost me RM 600 :(

All the old mileage records are gone replaced by the mileage recorded in the new cluster, however, due to mis-sync of the mileage, a red dot is appearing in the cluster, pretty annoyed seeing that.

My old cluster is still with me, any idea where can repair it?

Instead of repairing the old cluster, any chance resync-ing new cluster to follow original mileage reading?

No, the only way to use a brand new cluster and reprogram it or put back the old cluster and reprogram it. This is what I've been told.

Just a tip. Always disconnect the negative (body) first.

When both terminal are disconnected, always connect the positive terminal first than follow by the negative terminal.

Any reason why?
I normally take out the positive first when disconnecting, and put in negative first when re-connecting

The guy who sold me the battery say so and I check the instruction manual that come with the battery also confirm it.

Basically all equipment are connected to the negative or body earth whether the ignition is On or Off. Hence it would make sense to disconnect it first.
