Dear All,I'm in dilemma whether i should have my new 630 repainted in crystal white or solid white... As i understand, solid/alpine white is basically BMW original white color but crystal white is going to have kind of good effect too... Is there any other consideration i should take into other than the personal preference? It's kinda of hard to make decision as i can't have two different color cars shown to me simultaneously. Can anyone give me some ideas or just a vote?Appreciate with thanks!KaiFon

hey Kaifon,

Probably it would be helpful if you could put pictures up so that people can chime to which one looks better. Just my thought because I couldn't compute the color code. Or do you think that pictures won't do justice to the color presentation.. Just trying to help

Thanks aidilj! Erm... not sure whether i could get any relevant pictures! Anyway thanks for the suggestion, will try to find some and have them posted for a vote. Thanks dude!

Couldn't find similar two pictures to compare actually. Just take the closest one... First picture is the original BMW - Alpine white... (which almost all white BMW are using the same color code)... 2nd picture is crystal white (it's the same color as been used by Toyota Altis, Vellfire (as in picture))....

My car is in crystal white. If compare to alpine white, alpine white looks more yellowish.

There's also another type which is called pearl white. That's even more yellowish but I think crystal white looks better because its really white with some effects :)

I think the trend for new cars is pearl effect paints to give the reflection of the body panels. Audi just discontinued their Ibis White (solid) and introduced Glacier White as its replacement (Greyish Metallic White Pearl effect). Looks good and suits German cars more than the Blizzard white Pearl color from Toyota (yellowish). Check it out..

More pics of Glacier white from the URL here.. http://forums.vwvortex.com/entry.php?518-On-Location-Glacier-White-2012-Audi-A4-Other-Color-News-from-Audi

The Glacier White color from Audi is a Xirallic based paint, and there were global shortages of this paint code after the Japanese Earthquake. I think this is the coolest looking white I've seen :p

This is a very nice white from Audi :) how about local availability? Does our paint shop has it? Kaifon maybe you can consider this new white, looks beautiful

Thanks a lot E46Fanatic for the useful inputs! Will do some research with the painting shop by next week... Let you all more information then, just for additional knowledge.. :) (Thanks aoch88 for the recommendation too!) Have a good weekend!

Actually the "yellowish" tint from white paint is caused by the pearls/gloss paint. White is always white and if it's 100% pure Alpine white, it should not be yellowish :)

taken from my phone. so, the picture don't do justice. mine is a pearl white(i was inform it's the real crystal white and 7 series uses this white).

the shimmering pearl effect of the pearls on broad daylight is very good. it's not yellow.

Original BMW color is only Alpine white (color code 300) and non metallic. Normally if we re-spray outside, it will be crystal or pearl white following Toyota color paint codes. If you look like this it's hard to see the "yellowish" but if you park 2 cars side by side, you will notice pearl white is indeed a bit yellowish. Crystal white on the other hand is purely white with some pearl/metallic effect. The base paint is white but to get the effect, they spray 2K gloss/pearl over it so that's how those small little pearls appear on our paint :)

sorry... it's not crystal white. it's called mineral(something something). as per attached.

I chose Alpine White for my E30 coz it is more period correct as compared to the other variations of white which probably never existed back in the 80s/90s. Plus old skool color for an old skool car lah. Compared to Pearl White, there’s hardly any hints/shades of yellow in Alpine White at all. Alpine White is essentially old skool solid white.
