Cost Saving on a BMW?!

Found an interesting fact about our E39's during my recent respray of my '03 525i.The reverse side of the door handles on our cars left the factory UNPAINTED. Only the front face of the door handle is painted on the production line. So weird - see attached pic.Had mine painted over as the guys at the paintshop said it'd protect the door handle plastics better in the long run. But still wondering why BMW didn't bother painting the underside of the handle! lol!

Actually having paint on the plastic is not that good as it will cause it to have properties change...

Maybe that why they dun spray the whole thing... only spray the required side...

Still quite odd to find this kind of finishing on a BMW though. I mean, if you're going to spray one side, you might as well spray the other right? lol
