My engine has lost its growl :( Have to floor it very hard to hear anything from my hood now.Easy to find the cause of this problem as my area is constantly shrouded in construction dust from the development all around. The guess then I need to clean my filters more often, but I'm fearful in using the cleaning oil for my K&N filters. From what I have been told, using too much of it on the filters can cause the oil to spray onto my MAF sensors and burn them out. And those aren't cheap to anyone.Does anyone know the correct (and safest) method of cleaning them and how to check if too much oil has been used on the filters? Thanks.

Its pretty simple to clean a K&N filter, do the cleaning as advised on the bottle. make sure the filter is air dried not blow dried. Once dried, leave the filter upright and slowly drip the red solution on each and every dividers on the panel and let them coat automatically downwards, if its the spray bottle, just spray the top end and let it slowly coat downwards as well.

talking about the cleaning oil or spray for the K&N filter, anyone knows where to get those ? i need to clean mine too

When you use K&N filter, do you still maintain the socks as well? any noticeable difference using K&N filter on a 320i?

They are the sole authorised importer for K&N products in both Malaysia and Singapore. I used to let them clean my K&N at a norminal fee.. I think RM10.. call them to find out la.

Your fear is real. I'm keeping stock and wash my socks periodically.. http://upgr8s.blogspot.com/2009/07/bmw-e90-320i-diy-washing-air-filter.html :4:

Unless you are the type that replaces MAF every few years. Don't be surprised, we have few such folks in the club. :4:

and to add to jefferyewe advise,

after coating it, dry it in the sun for a few hours, let the oil soak in and dry up, then you can use it, then it would be less harmful on the oil sticking to your MAF... i used this method before on my old e30 engine...

Since we are talking about K&N filter, would like to ask a couple of question about it. Do you notice any power difference and does it change your fuel consumption?
Heard that K&N filter mesh is relatively far apart in order to suck in more air.
Planning to change to K&N.

My butt dyno don't feel anything..

There's a fella in our Facebook page trying to sell K&N: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bmwcm/

The American manufacturer won't send direct to us because Speedworks hold the sole importer license for both Singapore and Malaysia. This fella might have bought from Japan or Hong Kong who are also big regional players of K&N.

The difference would be too small to notice, even after mapping the ECU. But if combined with other performance mods then should yield more noticeable difference.

But if you remove the snorkels from your intake, the growl should be louder.. but that's it.

Louder intake suction noise results in more syok feeling, thus resulting in more hard jabs at the go pedal.. and this all increases fuel consumption.

I think the real benefit is the ability to clean and re-use the filters with minimal loss of performance after each cleaning. The OEM paper filters are meant to be disposable and each time you air-hose clean it, it's not 100% clean and still lose a little of intake performance.

You can also try to get them from kakimotor. They have air filters for most car. i got mine there.

As far as i know there's one in sunway and tmn maluri

Just want to update. Installed k&n filter for 2 weeks now. Performance wise, I don't feel any drastic difference but it does change my fuel consumption (10.5 to 10.6 l/100km according to board computer). Not much but significant.

Also bought the cleaning kit for future use.

Bro autobotross, can please share where you bought the cleaning kit? Thnax very much
