Looking for Booster seats for my child. Was reading some online reviews of Britax, Recaro, Graco, PegPrego, Combi  etc.... ease of installation (must be able to move from car to car) and grow with the child. The NHTSA site gave 4 phases, this would be the 3rd phase prior to getting to the right seat height for the "adult" seat belts.Anyone got any feedback on these kind of seats? TIA.

ngkm,Don't forget mothercare. nice one at RM199. I like!!!The Combi one is so pricey for what it can do.Britax and Peg also good. As long as the toddler has a comfy cushion and the booster seat is seated firmly to the actual car seat, you're on.Make sure the toddler fits the specs of the booster seat. most booster seats are for toddlers > 12kgs. Make sure you bring your child to try out too.

That (mothercare) is what I currently have, just the booster portion. After checking other brands out, found out mine was lacking a strap&buckle to allow the normal seatbelt to be positioned at the child's shoulder height. Also since its just the lower section, there is no side protection (if my car gets t-boned) or when my kid falls asleep (head keeps bobing left/right) -> that is why must look for seats with the back and side protection now. That is why now seeking insights/advice from other here who have gotten these types of seats (I think they are called booster seats, they come with a seat back and have wings to hold the child in place). Was wondering about the recaro start, its pricey but should be able to go the distance (I hv 3 kids....I think can pass it down for sometime). Anyone tried this model yet? Seems to have an option of having Sennheiser  units in the head wing area so the kid can listen to their own music.cheers.

Most of these boosters can last for along time. Depends mostly on weight and max shoulder height for the car belt position. My e34 only 2 3-points at the rear.... next option is to look for cars with all 3-pointers for all belt locations (if MPV, then must have 3 pointers everywhere). Was window shopping around and realised that not many makes satisfies my above belt requirement. Alot still make do with central lap belts. cheers....

ngkm, you already have a booster seat. I believe what you are looking for is a baby car seat, which has the side protection and 5 point safety harness. I am using the Britax bought for RM499 during a clearance sale at Ampang Point (ground floor, open area). Cheap cheap. This one, the belt points are adjustable for three heights, so it can fit as your baby grows. However, it takes up a lot of space in the back seat. Since I am getting a bassinet for my new addition to the family next year the car seat has to go, and I am opting for the booster seat. The recaro is nice but hehe.. daddy wants one too :D

Affan66,I think Ngkm is looking for a booster seat but those with back & lateral supports ( wings ). Think Britax have those but I am not exactly sure.....good place to check out is Mothercare & also Babyland.....maybe even Jusco or Toys R Us.I do agree, the common booster seat has only the seat part and lack lateral & back support - hence also saw my daughter nodding on & off to sleep! The best is still her 3 point harness which comes with a complete tub.....but soon she will outgrow that!H.A.N.S for toddlers! How come no one think of this ah???? :)Protecting our precious is what we are looking for! Do keep us informed on ur findings, Ngkm!

hi, some of you have probably seen my son Brian at the TTs @ BU Soccerzone. Though i only have one kid, i have 2 child seats as it is cumbersome to move from one car to another, especially the one i bought for him since a baby .... Britax child seat "co-branded" with AAM (RM500). This is bulky but it provides comfort for Brian .... from baby to about 3 years old, most of the time when he sits on this seat, he will fall asleep! Natural for kids anyway.

The other i bought when Brian turned four is Graco child booster seat but with backrest (detachable) ...Toysrus promo approx RM399 or RM349?
This is light & easily removable to keep in our boot. It is meant from 4 years old to 7years old. Problem:- if your child is sleepy, then he will nodding his head everywhere ...uncomfortable. So, for long journeys, i still fix the Britax child seat.

For all parents out there:- A child seat is a must!!! Please do not let your young kid in your car without it ....very dangerous. I had a few sudden braking close calls & things were thrown all about in the car but my kid still safely secured & he wasn't scared. It is important to train your kid on child seat from a baby stage or otherwise will face resistance. ;)

stephen,
my child is so comfy in her baby seat that she will eventually doze off.

Good example you're doing there. Kudos!!!
Maybe we should have a TT and show off our new accessories, car baby seats. Hahahah

kudos 2 u 2 !

p/s: forgot another important message .... NEVER install a child car seat in your front passenger seat if you have airbags installed there.... and if you dont have a child seat anyway, don't let your child seat in that front passenger seat until above 12years old i think ...check the warning prints re airbag on the sunscreen flaps.

the front air bag cab be switched off in the newer cars. Some of the uber cars have built in sensors to detect a child or the presence of a child seat and switch off the air bag deployment.

Recaro has released a new line of child seats. Should be cheaper than the 1st one they did (START). Also less flexible.
Also got a quote for START at RM1250 locally. It depends mostly on the covers chosen. Like graco (those sold in toy'r'us and 1st few years at centrepoint), the price range depends on which trim you like.

Was hunting around in europe (other brands as well) awhile back.... Not worth the trouble of bringing it back. Better buy here as most of them are similarly priced - unless there is a big sale there.

I do agree that child safety is often overlooked. I have 3 kids and my e34 is packed to its brim with 1 mothercare booster (5 yr old), 1 evenflo (2 yr old) and 1 (cheapy china-made) infant/baby carrier. :)
Must look for MPV liao.

In terms of the bobbing head while sleeping on the booster chair, there is always the inflatable neck cushion for kids (if they can get past the ticklishness of using it). Also found a simple booster chair with a back and side wings in Parkson1U. Can use lap belt only somemore since it has its own harness. But I got my mind set on the Recaro start liao.

cheers.

So I presume you cannot carry any other passengers in your back seats...

:D True.... Its good too. Don't have to be a driver for lunches at work. :)

cheers.
