I was at AB Pg today with my friends. We were checking out a 2004/06 E46 330Ci which was on sale.( unfortunately the RM250k price was just beyond our means) Anyway my friends who both own E46s checked out their mileage with their keys. One had similar mileage with the odometer. My friend who has a Japan recon car had a 37000km variance. His odo in the car stated 89000km wherelse the computer reading the key stated 126000km. I never knew that the computer could read your car's history from an E46 key. The SA told me that the E36 key didnt have such a feature. Just thought I'll share this interesting discovery with you guys.

woo...will check mine..my e46(2001 japs) clocked 15k when i first bough it last year..

good info mate...so how do they explain the variance?

thx cheeers..

The variance must have been the dealer tampering with the odometer b4 selling it to my friend.

The dealer may hv not realised that the key also stored such infomation.

Anyways this is one way to verify the mileage of your car if you bought it second hand esp if its recon and you hv no information about it.

Btw, I went to the car clinic that was arranged by d club, and I found out tat those car tat using start stop button, their key not just able to give the data regarding the mileage but also it memorise the driver driving habit so if u have 2 keys and one belong to ur wife and one day u swap with her u'll find tat some things r diff as i was told during d car clinic... Other than tat if during accident ur not wearing ur seatbelt, but u said u did they also able to check tat whether its true or not...

Anyway i tried and switch my key to my spare key and the most obvious diff tat I see is tat my clock instead of 12hours setting, it was change to 24hours setting. Then i change back to my usual set of key and its back to 12hours setting...

bro, how exactly they can check with the key? put the key in the ignition as usual and then plug in GT1 to check? or plug the key into another device to see the mileage?

That's standard feature on the 1series if I'm not mistaken. Not so sure about the 3s and so on.
