Anybody willing to buy a car from UK please feel free to drop me an email at starlet4e_turbo@yahoo.com and i will explain the details.Im a student here and there are couple of student going back to Malaysia...Grab yourself a bargain, it will be a waste if nobody using the AP.

Using student's AP to import a used UK car certainly looks attractive (financially) for potential buyer. The downside is that said imported car will be registered including the insurance policy under the student's name and I believe registration is non-transferable for 5 years. Of course one may suggest that an agreement and/or transfer form to be drawn up and signed between the student and the "actual owner" (potential buyer). However I also believe that any agreement made that circumvent the laws and/or regulations is not enforceable in the court of laws. So if later on the student decides not to honour this agreement, what option would the "real buyer" have? Likewise, if the "real buyer" commits traffic offences and/or used the car for criminal offences, would the student be held responsible?

That will be the legal implication like what herbert say.... More danger to buyer than seller.... i feel

there are a lot of ppl doing this, i also sold my wife's ap since she didnt use it when we came back only with 1 car.

yes bro herbert it right on all counts, except the 5 year period has been changed to 2 years recently. proven by my msia registration card which says 'Daftar atas nama pengimport sahaja. Tidak boleh tukar milik dalam tempoh 2 tahun dari tarikh pendaftaran'

Then 2 years not that bad as compared to 5 years. BTW, what's is the market rate for usage of student AP? What are the other conditions attached to the AP (other than 2 years non-transferable) for example: can import a new car ? if it is used, what is the minimum year of manufactured?

sold my wife's ap for RN8500 to bring in Mini Cooper, was told if BMW i can get more..

must be a used car because the condition is to actually own the car at least 9 months before returning (there are ways around this). no minimum years, the more recent the car the more tax that you pay. simple as that.

Have to pay full payment for the car and the student AP in cash, possible get any loan / HP when the car in ?

bro jarance, i bought mine in feb 2010, car shipped in june. just backdate the documents.

Interesting!

Is Ozzieland a possibility as tonnes of our children are also schooling there! Plus the car prices are also much much lower than here.

And how do you get a student AP?

By being a student of course! Those studying abroad, especially the UK tend to have such perks. Best consult Haywire as he recently brought back his E39 Aegean. :top:

haywire, how much saving can get for a BMW E90/325 M Sport/2009 as compare if buy local?

1. how is the sea freight?
2. How long it take to ship back here from UK to Malaysia?

Thinking of it if the saving is substantial.

btw, the guideline is very helpful. cheers bro.

Car RM27,500
Tax RM41,770
Storage (88 days) RM704
Agent RM1,200
Roadtax RM2077
Insurance RM1870

Total RM75,121

This was what I paid for my car. As a general rule, you will save circa RM50k (about RM40k if you have to buy an AP for RM8k-RM10k).

E.g my car was RM71k before tax and insurance, versus RM120/130k here.

If value of car is circa RM200k, you will get about RM150k all in.

Bad news is you gotta have cash.

Shipping is a month. Mine shipped on 8th July, arrived on 7 August. When I left UK the going rate for shipping a car was GBP580.

Thanks haywire, 50K saving is a lot of money.

Time for me to draw some money out..
