guys, i went to check for my alignment yesterday, the mechanic said that my E36 318i yr1999 front wheels chamber has changed to +4 (i think, not really sure what is tat).... i didn't really experiencing any instability while driving on the highway, just that there is more wear over the inner shoulder of my front tyres.....i have lowered my ride using OMP spring with stock absorber about 1 1/2 years back, i am still using stock 15 inches rims.... they qouted me for 100+ for both side with some modification on the nut, or whatever i not sure... so should i go for it or i can just let it be????thanks, willie

+4 and wear on INNER shoulder? something not consistent here......

normally negative chamber = inside tyre wear.

4 degrees is bad for your tyre life, + or - numbers, period.

if it's negative 4, u'll see the front tyres kangkang. // \\

what are the individual camber value for the tyres??

If u don't have the numbers, there's nothing much we can really advise u. what u relayed in ur posting is too general.

Repeat after me.

C-A-M-B-E-R.

After learning the proper spelling, do some research/googling to understand what +ve and -ve camber means. This will make the discussion more constructive. And reduce your chances of being cheated by mechanics.

If you googled 'Chamber' and did not find what you were looking for, now you know why.

Please give a better description of the modification nut instead of 'i dunno what' in order for us to advise you.

And like Jules said, +4 and wear on INNER tire are conflicting points. Please reclarify. Either that, or your mechanic SUCKS big time. Change to another mechanic, preferably one that does not say "Chamber". Might help.

sorry, is -4.... hehe, this is new thing to me mah.... i only know what is toe in and what is toe out....

yaya, that said that mine CAMBER lari liao, need to pam.... and the inner side of the tyre has more tear..... so, what should i do??

thanks,
willie

-ve 4 is a lot.. There's something very wrong here.

1. Have u knocked into potholes recently?
2. is your car lowered?
3. are your strut towers ok? (check from inside the engine bay)

Come for TT and let us see what can be wrong. Are you from Klang Valley?

Mr Yee,

I think he did say tha he put in lowering springs. But -4 camber is a bit too much lah i think. Can't be that much right? I mean naturally, unless langgar lobanglah

- 4, ok. That makes sense.

Never a good idea to PUMP. Something's got to bend when it is pumped, in order for the camber to reduce, possibly the shock absorber...

Study the Nut solution in more detail. might help. I've heard abt it too, but haven't actually seen it, so don't know how it works.

Another option, adjustable camber/caster plate. quite expensive.

The only way to get -4 camber that i could think of is either :
1. accident
2. major pothole
3. something wrong w suspension setup, 1.5 years of wear and tear slowly increasing the camber (this is unusual...)

good luck!

pump is NO NO...the pressure goes to your bearings!

bolt also....depends. Those Malaysia boleh ones....which I was offered for my Plotong days are also NO NO. The whole geometry held by the bolt tension and not the body of the bolt acting in shear condition..ie bolt hole and bolt diamter must fit fit....they sell smaller bolt diameter to allow the "adjustment" which is weak and when u hit a huge bump....all settings run again!

Unless your strut holes are SLOTTED already by factory.....then the bolt way is basically a NO NO! and please retain standard bolt size when u have the slotted holes.

Of course if your ride is standard....change your suspension parts cos one is surely bent! which one...takes a bit to find out

For a lowered ride solution? Adjustable camber plates only way out....speak to our Fabian for Malaysia boleh ones! If money no issue....K-MACS loh.

I m also looking...for rear he he he!

Hopefully its not a bent rear trailing arm. Happened on my dad's W126 MB.

Take the car to a bimmer specialist to do the diagnosis and decide what to do from there.

whao.....-4 on an E36???? good !!!! for track use la...

-4 in front is probably more than track dude! Only people i know with that kinda -4 camber set up will be pure track cars or those drift machine's with -5 front & 0 up back.
If the shop can advice you to do -4 cambers, you should run as far as you can! Guy is really dodgy. Max if you dont track & drive like a mad man will be about -1. Lee36328 can give the original setting for the car. Hell! any good alignment shop can do it easy. setting are all i the machine liao anyway.
With lowering spring setting may vary but not that much.

how much will Adjustable camber plates cost??? i never though of my camber will run when i planned to lowered my car, my combination is OMP lowering spring with stock absorber......

so if i want to keep my ride lower, even i modify the nut the camber will change again after sometime????

thanks,
willie
