Hai BMW Master,I need help from u all.. i buy BMW E46 318i 2001 with M43 Engine , and i got problem with warning light show up like gearbox.I need to know what problem with this warning like.. like gearbaox warning.I already change tranmision oil, filter and one of tree solinoid inside tranmision. whan i go for dignos.. fulty show 019 - solinoid shiftlock.so any body can help me.. 0169599049

Bro, normally, we change all 3 nos whenever 1 failed. Because the other 2 solenoid also will fail soon based on the lifespan.

Now, you will have to waste all the ATF oil since another solenoid fail.

The sign with Gear and "!" sign means that the auto transmission is faulty. it will go on a limb mode of 3 rd gear for you to drive to workshop for repair.

AT some places, they will pour back the oil into the transmission system....which a big no no cause there is no sure way to ensure the oil is not contaminated....

Hi all, I had the a similar problem like you. I took my 2003 E46 318 to German Mechanic Sdn Bhd (in Desa Melawati) for to fix a leaking oil sump and the guy replaced my ATF. After driving 20km, the "!" sign appeared and the car would not change gear! Ended up the radiator hoses leaking cause of the heat and had to tow back the car to the workshop.
When the mechanic plugged in the diagnostic computer, it says error with "Pressure Actuator 04". Now the guy says I need to put in a recon gearbox for RM6.5k!!!
From your experience - is this a screw up from the shop? I am thinking of taking this to Consumer Tribunal. Btw, I ran a complete diagnostic with another shop, and there was no gearbox error msg.

Please help!!

if you have the diagnostic tool, you can test each and individual solenoid. The solenoid that did not response or fail the test is the faulty one.

Yes you can still drive if the warning light up. Most of the time, you just need to stop the engine and restart. in most cases, it will reset the alarm and you can drive normal. But, intermittently, you might get the warning sign. As mentioned earlier, the gearbox will goes on limb mode. i.e. the gearbox will only engage 3rd gear..

Did the guy used the right ATF.. It is very likely that the wrong spec is used. BTW, did you have any problem with the GB prior to changing the ATF.

BTW, why did you change the ATF?

Your hydraulic pump for the GB is either faulty or the ATF oil level is low will cause the "oil pressure low" alarm. I would think that the cause is due to wrong specification of the ATF.

"Pressure Actuator 04" alarm is only the solenoid. You dont need to do a GB overhaul.. To replace only required to drain the ATF, remove the oil sump pan, remove the filter and then gain access to the solenoid.

Get a second opinion from BMW specialist.

tkhairul - bro i've got the same problem before. After i left the car to rest and when i restarted the car in the morning its gone. Brought to my mechs and they flushed and changed my ATF oil. Everything seems fine now.

thanks alot bout ur help bro..

means my brake system got problem.
maybe need to change the brake pad.

thanks.

brake system not just the brake pad.. you got ABS problem as well. The ABS alarm could be triggered by faulty wheel sensors in the front or rear wheels.

Also your DSC is affected which is also speed sensors for the wheels. but sometime the alarm is caused by low battery voltage. It have been known that sometime the sensors do not work well if the battery voltage is low.

Better to get it checked out by a bmw specialist.. who have proper diagnostic tool. :listen:

allo tengku..gua lagi teruk nie..mintak tolong kawan2..

My car 320I e-46 only move foward...need help

just to share my 2cents worth over the last 2 months that ive been experiencing.

Whenever the gear changes, it has a strong jerk, ie from first to second and second to third. Send to workshop and run diag and says its gearbox failure!!! ouch...

Then i told him to reset, after resetting, test drive, no difference.....so, chances are he is right...

Then, i told him wait, let me think...

Left the car at home for 2 days (not driven), then took it out to antoher workshop, to my surprise, there is no more jerk....perhaps the resetting works but it doesnt work immediately....

A week later, guess what, overheating...so, when open the bonnet, i see teh tarik gushing out of the expansion tank and the floor...

Send to workshop, now realised that there is already auto oil in my radiator and cause of it is the "heat exchanger" likely to have gave way but there is no way to check. To remedy, i have to change everything, radiator, all the hoses, expansion tank, heat exchanger, flush, auto oil again etc....the fortunately thing is that the coolant didnt get into teh auto transmission otherwise, need to chagne gearbox....

Moral of the story is that, go for the basic resetting first for the first part, also, if your car mill is below 150 K, dont listen to workshop to change gearbox as chances are slim but make sure u change ATF though.

Second, change your heat exchanger regularly perhaps every 50 K as it cost about RM500 only otehrwise, you will have to spend 10 times the amount assuming gearbox is not affected otehrwise, multiply that by another 15 times....

This is my first Beemer and i was rather surprise the nos of faults with the car as i hardly use it and yet problematic compared to Merc where mine W203 is problem free in the past 5 years!!! Thats the price to pay if you want to feel the drive....

cheers
