Just now on the way home, I went over a slight depression on the road and my brake pad light came on. Stopped and turn off engine. After starting the engine brake pad light still come on. Since I am almost home I continued, near my house the light went off. Then come back on.At home I turned on and off a few times. Finally the light off. I will see tomorrow morning whether it comes on again.Simple question - this is just a warning right? I can still drive the car tomorrow without risk? Coz I dont have time to go straight to the workshop tomorrow morning.Please give me some advice.

Bro;
Greetings. As to your question above about the warning lights; yes its a warning! Anyway, I have had the experience a month ago where this warning light turned on. I bought a set of front brake pad and try to get it change..... The mechanic said there is no need to change as my pad is still thick as I still remember that I had just change it last December. The mechanic said the wire that connects the sensors were torn and had short circuited the body thus the lights turn on.... Just check this first! May be can save some money.... just my humble opinion.

Take a visual on the balance pad thickness to confirm. Know which one is the pad? Most current BMW rims are alloy and provide sufficient visual contact to inspect pad thickness.

The pad wear indicator comes up when the rotor scrub the sensor to provided sufficient grounding to complete the circuit allowing the indicator to lit. U now have less than 2mm pad balance. Unless it like what mentioned above by Ben, the sensor wire torn and grounded.

crusher, the owner's manual is still in the glovebox right? Have a read. It will tell you about the tell-tale signs lah... :)

Thanks all...my observations is that it is the front sensor that is a problem based on fact that the light comes on when the front wheel go over a depression on the road. In fact the front brake pads already changed last November so it is unlikely that the pads are worn.

I will continue to use the car and bring it for checking this weekend.
