hi all, i'm looking to change my front brake discs which are getting thin. wanna know what are the options that i have if i want improved performance from the standard one. fyi i'm on 15" wheels. thanks for the help

ATE ventilated or non ventilated disc, reasonably priced and good perfomance.

I'm also looking at replacing my discs - how much would the original discs from AB cost? and how does the original equivalent (without the BMW logo) sold by places like BA compares to the BMW ones? If the quality is the same then I would opt for the original equivalent as it would be cheaper.

in my opinion for ur e36....

Brembo caliper and brake disc would helps u alot...

i'm looking for it as well..
but used 1 very hard to find....

thanks...

I never believe in second hand parts for my brake system, these are one of the the most important elements when it comes to safety for our rides.

We don't know what these second hand calipers and disc have gone through b4 it lands in your hands.

Therefore, I suggest that your source for new ones......as the safety on you and your love ones depends on them.

I'm using ATE up front. Can't remember the name of the pads, I think its ATE too. No problems at all, brakes are strong as ever. Honestly, why do you need to improve the brakes on your E36?

new 1 is too pricey ler dude.... hehe

used 1 atleast i still can overhaul the brake caliper myself..

buying new disc is okie... but not cheap also.... haha

low budget but still wanna use is like that one lor... hahaha

its actually depends on those who wana upgrade their brake system....

However is it...i'll still prefer NEW one if i got budget.....

Cheers*

I definitely would not go for used discs or pads - like what Jeffreyewe said, you dont know what its been thru and can be dangerous. Just not worth it.

As for Brembo/ATE I have not tried before but I do know for a fact that that some models are made outside of Europe.

I am most comfortable with the ori ones and have no complaints - very reliable and confident. Only problem is the high cost. Ori equivalent is my next option if they are made by the same supplier for BMW - should be cheaper. Brake discs are safety items; it has to have the correct chemical compositions during casting and are precision machined. A poor chemical composition (not according to the specified manufacturer requirements) can affect its mechanical strength like metal fatigue, high operating temperature, brake fade, etc. Whereas poor machining can give rise to things like run-out which produces brake judder and unbalance (vibration). It may look like a simple part but the brake disc is a high tech product in which the original equipment manufacturer had conducted extensive tests in various conditions. So, choose carefully your replacement brake discs.

this is a pic of how the ate disc look like, and this is a link for more info, depends on your buget, if you want value for money with performance the ate is a good choice. the site below tell a lot about the product.

For e36 vented front discs, the ori ones (with BMW logo) are about RM280 a piece. Rears are about 220. These are the prices I got from BA, 1st Div. etc. AB probably sells them for more ... :dunno:

OEM replacement discs like ATE are less than half the price, but what I gather is they don't come with a warranty against warping. The ori ones do .... :dunno:

Likewise, OEM pads like ATE, Jurid are about RM100 (fronts) compared to ori ones for over 200+.

Have used several combos with Schumann x-drilled, ATE, BMW disc plus Textar, Jurid, ATE, BMW pads on both cars ..... personally not much diff in road performance .....

thanks for all your responses. actually i'm looking for a better performance than what i'm currently facing. i guess my brakes are worn out already that it takes time for it to really bite. the ATE discs looks convincing. if the price is rifht maybe i'll consider. if not i'll just stick to the std ones. thks again

Anyone tried DBA Golds....these are made in Australia but would like to know if there's an agent in KL/PJ area.

Thanks.......

Ps : The shop I went to recently said that Zimmerman ( cross-drilled ) & Pagid goes well.....EBC Green stuff was also top on their list....but cost a fair bit....45 Pounds for just the fronts.

Hey Jules. Are you still over in the U.K. ? How much can you get Pagid Fast Road pads there ? Some mags indicated about 35 pounds for fronts.
