Hi all, Planning to change my Brake disc. Think it's warped. Been getting lots of different prices and different advises from ppl. Hope someone can help me with this. 1. What is the price or an original BMW front Disc, I've been qouted 390 per pc. is that ok? 2. Is that the best choice? Would anybody recommend alternatives. 3. If it is an alternative, how's the performance? would it be better or just up to mark Hope anybody here can help me out. thanks a million

i think i overheard my foreman in the workshop quoting a complete change of 1 set of pad (left and right) and a disc (front) = RM530 like that for an E36.

disc is roughly RM160...anyway... he was mumbling how much cheaper the disc was than proton.. hehhe :D

Hi sesat,

what brand of disc is that? is it oem? cause I've heard oem ones aren't that good ( any experience? ). i was qouted 390 for one disc thats 780 for a pair, without pads.

Bro rubes72, what model is your ride?

I have 1 set front original BMW pads to let go..., suits e32,e34 & e39.

dunno woh.... i just overhead only loh.
give u indication on price range mah... check out the spare part shops in KL... for more reliable pricing loh.

maybe changing brakes disc / calipers soon.... heee :D

may go for E46 brakes soon as they are bigger.

The car fitted with the disc and pad i mentioned .. ok woh.. no complaints. Best advice is still call directly to the sparepart shops and do a price comparison. ;)

dont go for lemforder, just my personal experience.. warped very easily.
i hear ATE is pretty good as well. i dont think you need to get the ori bmw stuff, at 390 a pc, quite pricey, i would already be exploring EBC rotors and pay more, but if you are really unsure, and want peace of mind, they're the way to go.

pads, well.. i use nothing special, just el cheapo jurid oem replacement stuff.. did a 240km fast drive on the weekend, kl-karak-bentong-frasers hill-kkb-kl... didnt have any problems with the brakes at all, no fade. lets just say i drove until my tires were slightly blistered, with only 2 stops in between, lasting about 15mins.
for normal driving in town? shouldn't be a problem at all. but probably not for trackdays.

upgrade to dba disc ..it look quite striking...have seen some range come with cross drill & slotted...wonder whether it cost a bomb o not:cool:

e36 328 disc varies in prices depending on how much the workshop wanna potong your leher :) Easy as that. Their actual cost per price is only at the RM100+ range each.

If you want to pay RM700+ it will be more worthwhile to get performance discs.. National UK has slotted and drilled discs for RM600+ only which has much better gripping power than originals. DBA is also a good buy.

I don't know, most workshops advised against slotted disc. My concern is that I not the safest driver in town, and I do KL-Kemaman weekely at 2.5 hours , at average speed of 160Kmh. What are your takes those who have slotted discs? So maybe after market disc are also good?

well first you have to understand the facts behind slotted disc and then you'll know whether the workshop claims are valid. If you use an original non-slotted disc but have it slotted, then it has a chance for cracking under pressure because it interferes with the integrity of the disc. However aftermarket slotted discs are made to withstand a certain threshold and is not tampered non-slotted discs. The only negative side about slotted disc, like any other performance part, it wears out faster compared to stock discs and also wears your brakepads faster due to the resistance.

but the braking power is increased right? So it's not all correct advise i've been getting. thanks

most definately, the more friction and resistance the easier the car stops. It is the law of physics, can't run away from that.

The existing brake setup are a bit tad soft...for normal city drive still ok...but if high speed drive then it may not so safe...perhaps in order to really to see whether any real improvement gains is to go thru stage by stage..first upgrade the brake pad to better one like Ebc, see any marginal improvment visible, then stainless steel brake hose & check again ...follow by disc..or it could be the weakest link lies on out foot..:)
