A question to e39 owner, anyone using the bored out wheel for his e39?I plan to buy a set of rim from e34. To fit the rims on my car, i need to bore out the wheel center from 72.5mm to 74.1mm which is specific for e39. I am concern about the shimmy problem.Any alternative way if i don't want to bore out the center?Any good workshop to recommended if i opt to bore out the wheel? Thanks.

No worrylah....just a simple job....find a good sport rim repair shop will do...normal mechine shop might not hv d big mechine to hold d rim...I did d same thing for my client at sunway....no problem at all....

what happen to your original M5 rims? sold? my advice, buy a rim that fits..dont ever bore it larger. Any slight workmanship error/incompetence, thats it...all the vibration, shimmy, and funny funny things will happen.
just my 2 cents cause i've been thru it.
cheers

I did this with a set of E60 wheels at Hua Hin Sg Besi near AB Sg Besi. They completely fscked up the wheels, no matter how I straighten or balance them, my E39 had vibration at around 80km/h to 120km/h.

Want to feel the 17' rims..Everywhere is raining and everywhere is pothole..sign..

Bore out or not..comment comment comment..My brain say no, my heart say yes.

Once bore out it is no return.

Hmmmm..A real experience..:top:

Anyway how much they cost u?

18 inch on the e39 is just nice. A balance btwn comfort and handling...just stay v the 18's you will be fine.
Once you bore, surely you will regret, then start another thread.."WTS 17's rims for e39"...LOL
Cheers brader

bmw7833,
Paultantk is correct. If not done properly you will experience vibration and may "regret it for the rest of your life"

Better stick to the original rims, bro

can you not grind a bit from your wheel bearings? I had to do this to my rear, but only one mm max and about half sm deep, as I couldn't fit back my rims after converting to disc breaks.

I ended up giving the wheels to a mechanic in Kota Damansara for him to use as "spare wheels" in case any of his customer wants to do wheel refurnishment. Since they were permanently damaged by the boring, didn't feel right selling them.

Advice given by all our bros are NO! NO! based on their personal experiences. Of course if you ask any rims sellers, they will say they have done it for their customers and so far no complaint. I tend not to believe them.

some good outcome some bad.as lionel koh has mentioned he has done this for one of his customers succesfully...so go see him(he da man.....) and get him to do this for you.....kalau he botches the job....hantam him left right center la.....sorry la lionel....mula2 angkat....lepas it hantam.....

Thanks all..decided not to buy the e34 rims.

Now i am looking for the original 17' e39 rims, m-sport not really my liking anyway.

Thanks again.

Based on my experience ...............Its okey to bore teh center cone so long u find a good shop to do it .......

I also did a 15mm special with a center cone to clear my e38 caliper for my ex e36 .....No problem at all but as i said ......u must find the right shop to do it .......

No one can fix it, tried so many shops, even Manji at MPS Auto gave up, neither can another Michelin shop near ming tien...
