its the boot switch...sorry did not realise there was one under the dash!!

Im referring to E46 only. (Not sure where it is in the other newer models but im sure there is an electronic boot/trunk release from inside the cabin too)

Its located near the bonnet (or hood) release. Open the drivers door to see clearly. Look down on the right black plastic panel near your accelerator pedal. There should be button there. Tada!

You might have dead locked it from the outside of your boot/trunk using your key.

had my car for almost 2 years now and am just realising there is a boot release switch under the dash!!!

I've never figured out the logic for the interior boot release switch.

Sometimes it works

Sometimes it doesn't work

Can't figure out the logic -- I've tried it with the engine on, engine off, key out, key in, lock car, unlock car etc

Same time with the boot lid release on the exterior.. sometimes work sometimes doesn't work

Does anyone know the logic for it??? please I'm need to know!

Have not encountered that, schone. Perhaps you poked at it too briefly? Try press and hold (for a little more than 0.5sec)

In my case, I noticed the button on the boot only works when the passenger door is unlocked. If the passenger door is locked, the button on the boot does not work.

However, the button under the dashboard works for all situations.
