rust around the rear lights

rust on the roof
the bonet is rusting

and thats just a few

sorry to break the bubble. The only way you can save your car is to strip it bare, sand down all the rusts. Weld, bando the holes and prime it. Recoat the whole body with anti rust undercoat and a new coat of paint. Anything less your car will be heading for terminal oblivion in the very near future. I personally do not know of any workshop that does a decent job of treating rust. You can use the search fucntion to search for 'rust'. i am sure there are lots of threads touching on that subject matter. good luck.

hi guys,

i have treated my rust points here..... pls give them a try.... but its not going to be cheap.... they have treated a few e21s for rust problems....

Sim & Seong Motor Spray And Painting
26-26A, Jln Penchala,
Seksyen 51,
Petaling Jaya 46050
Tel: 03-7785 5440 or pls consult Ah Loy @019-960 9369

they have done fantastic jobs on my e21 (for rust only, painting was done elsewhere-could not afford their charges).... (they are near the old firehouse near the old pepsi-cola factory, just opposite the junction turning left to the jln othman wet market)

hope this info helps.

cheers

This guy is doing the restoration. It is a Baur convertible.

Wau:eek: ... thats dam...serious.....it is really a super mission to get it rebuilt. must solute to his mind, patien and pocket money.

If for this kind of condition, in JB have to pay for more than 5 to 7k just to re-con the body work c/w paint job. no joke!! (some more no warranty!!)

Any chop shop in anyway still dealing with E21 parts?

haha...that guys baur looks in better condition than mine...i feel his pain!
mine all the floorbords just crumbled to pieces when i took off the carpet.
i wouldnt mind striping everything down. just want to know how far can i go doing this DIY? i cant weld but if i were to do all the minor rust removals and cut off the cancerous parts off would the cost of doing it be reduced when i send it to the shop for welding? i have only heard of one place in sunway that does sandblasting but i also heard he is preety steep in prices. here are some pics of my interior;

this is a 320 four cylinder. i hear it is preety rare as all the others are six...is it?

i have a friend that just bought a e21 for the number plate.. so he wants to dispose the car..the brought the car back home, now his wife is giving him hell..
the body looks fine, the windscreen is all okay, interior is fine..but the dashboard is mine(i book it).

just sms to me for his number..

my number is zeroonetwo-threeonethreeonefourthreethree.

mod, please dun delete this number..tq.

Hmmmm! Pussy with e21 dashboard. Another to join the fold?

Thinking of putting an M30B35 in there by any chance???

U might want to consider getting the shell from Pussy's friend. Inspect it first tho. You already know where to look for rust.

Phil Briggs may opt to fully restore as it is a Baur and in the UK, the only pre-79, i.e., pre-facelift Baur on the registration records. Extremely rare!

bro
the number plate nice?...........

if. its welding in a new floorboard or non structural item then its not too bad.. however to do a good job it will not be cheap..

as a forummer mentioned. you will need to strip the car to bare metal, take off all rust and repaint with galvinizing paint..

it gonna cost you around 5K in KL maybe a bit less in malacca. ... and frankly for that amount you may wish to geet an e21 with lousy mechanicals but a sound body and transplant all your mechanicals.

aku dah panggil sekor tol truck untuk angkut my secondcar from segamat to KL, kalau yang pangkai cangkuk front tyre, dalam linkungan RM300++, kalau yang angkut atas lori, RM600 hingga RM700. last last decide to repair the car in segamat. better use that extra money to repair minor thing first, than baru bawa pi KL. esok malam gua balik segamat, nak bawa kreta balik KL lusa.
kat melaka, ramai jugak yang mahir tentang perkara seperti begini. better buat kat melaka, takda perbezaan. bapa aku pun repair rust dan spray kreta dia kat melaka. dekat kampong batu lapan. kedainya aku tak pasti, keno tanya cousin dulu.

would anyone here might have an idea of how much it will cost to treat the rust? coz i have an E23 which has started to rust under the paint job...i was thinking of DIY. i was actually planing to strip the car down so i can replace all the missing bolts, nuts and screws that were not place back by the people who worked on my car.

if you are looking for a "back to metal" respray which is really what you want if rust is showing under the paint, then you're looking at about 3K

hehehe, try me. bengkel kampung only, but everything will be fully weld, no tab welding. if u want mig welding also can. surely below 3k, maybe below 2k. i'm restoring my e21 also, long way to ecstacy though. i'll pm u

hey guys, sorry i have been inactive for a while...thanks those who sent me info..really appreciate it. as for now my e21 is still sleeping. waiting for the $$ to come in for her. but i am wondering, coz a friend recommended i buy the floor boards and what ever needed from germany then weld everything here. but is it worthit? i calculated from the catalogue all the parts i need comes to abput 2.5k.floor boards are preety much just sheets of metal right?
