Guys, I came across this article, just tought I would share with you lads. Its about time anyways for BMW to come up with their own supercar. Simply awesome.... It's simply BMW's answer to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi R8 and even the Mc Larren SLR The 2008 BMW Z10 BMW’s last supercar was the M1 back in 1979. That car was the first car produced by BMW Motorsports, which makes the M cars like M3 and M5. The BMW M1 had a 3.5 liter inline-6 24 valve engine that made 277hp at 6500rpm and 324Nm of torque at 5000rpm. Tuned versions could make up to 850hp.Now with it’s involvement with F1, BMW naturally would go what the other car manufacturers in F1 are going to do, make a supercar. Toyota has it’s Lexus LF-A and Honda has it’s new NSX coming down the lane. BMW’s new supercar is going to be called the Z10. BMW has set development targets for the Z10 to be a rear/mid-engine supercar powered by a V10. The V10 would be likely a tuned up version of the advanced M5 V10 5 liter engine that won the 2005 Engine of the Year award. Targetted performance figures are 550hp and a curb weight of 1200kg which gives the car a power to weight ratio of 458bhp per tonne.

Very sweet... Lovely.

Why would BMW need a supercar if they are doing so well selling their M3,M5,M6 and soon to be M8?

Personally, I would go for Bentley Continental GT or Merserati or M6 .. where style and performance are balance.

M3, M5 and M6 cater to different segment...anyone who buys a SLR will not be comparing it to any of those...

lovely indeed...can't wait to read the report on the comparison with the R8...

I am also looking into getting something with this kind of power to weight ratio.............

Kawasaki Jetski 800-SX-R
781cc
80bhp (standard tune)
160kg

Yes the current M line-up are not in supercar territory, like the Pagani Zonda, Enzo, Carrera GT etc. If the new BMW supercar is anything like the M1, or even the half-BMW McLaren F1 then it would be something.
