BMW's 3-Series Coupe to become the 4-Series

BMW's best selling 3-Series has for nearly four decades been the brand's introductory model – the first taste of a BMW for prospective aficionados. As the BMW range has grown, the larger 5-Series and 7-Series have found more sporty, more stylish and more upmarket coupe derivatives in the 6-Series and 8-Series respectively. Now, the pattern is set to continue with the 4-series, to be shown as a concept at the NAIAS (Detroit Motor Show) in January, but one already slated for production within 12 months

M3 will become M4 according to Car and Driver.

Production code for the new M3/M4 will also be different. Its not F30/F32, its gonna be F80 or something like that.

With the 4 Series Gran Coupe as an addition, here is a summary of the upcoming 3 Series / 4 Series lineup:

• F30 3 Series Sedan
• F31 3 Series Touring
• F32 4 Series Coupe
• F33 4 Series Convertible
• F34 3 Series (GT) Gran Touring
• F35 3 Series Long Wheelbase (China only)
• F36 4 Series Gran Coupe

I think the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be good for those who would like the esthetic of the coupe and yet are not ready to sacrifice the practicality of the 4-door.
