Hello everone,

New to this forum and also BMW.

Would like to know if new bmw vehicles require any break-in? Sales agent did not mention anything about it and I've heard that it does not need any. But still prefer to have some expert advice to have a peace of mind.

Thanks to any advice given in advance !

I was told they dont need any either by the Sales guy but I tried to be 'gentle' for the first 1000km in case.

My sales advisor say no need but I did the usual protocol for breaking in the engine. I guess old habits die hard. But I also believe, better safe than sorry.

My F30 manual if I'm not mistaken says first 2,000km no more than 4,500rpm and 160kmh.

The Owner's manual got instructions about having to break in or otherwise....

Thanks for all of your reply guys. So what's the recommended highest push for a proper/safe break in?

I did try going through the manual twice but can't seem to find any info on breaking in.

i pushed as hard as i can in every car that i have in the first few days..
if it gonna break.. it gonna break then.. not 1 year later..

seems working very well for me // except for one.. that went banged within 2 weeks... got a replacement car

Lastime I replaced my engine block, the mechanic said to run the car not accelerating more than 100kmh for a week

Running in directions in the Manual, pg 264

Up to 2000km

Do not exceed the maximum engine revs and speed

With petrol engines, 4500rpm and 160kmh

Avoid full load or kick down

From 2000km onwards,

Engine and road speeds can be gradually increased.
