dear fellow bimmerians...I hv a question here. is it true BMW need special pump@tools for camber adjustment?:106:my ride is '96 318i e36 and i went to a tyre shop a few days back to adjust my camber but the towkay advise me to do it at other shop since they don't have the equipment for BMW's camber adjustment...is it true guys??need some info please..

Front camber is fixed.. Rear not so sure.. Even if adjustable, won't be by a lot...
Unless what the shop meant is the pump the strut...

So what was wrong with your car which required the camber adjusted to be adjusted??

no wonder the tayar shop have few customer..not enough skill i think..since they dont know how to do it so :stupid:just came up with lame reason..damn.

best is if you go back to BMW but $$$ la...hahaha...they SHOULD adjust it back to factory settings and besides that, they also have the equipment...good luck :)

sorry guys let me make it clearer..at first i would like to do wheel alignment @ the tyre shop straight away from workshop coz i just change my right front ball joint..then when my car was on the alignment ramp the mechanic told me that will try their best to do the alignment since both front and rear left tyres camber are toe out so they can't do perfect wheel alignment on my car. i asked why don't just adjust the camber and that's where they came out with the lame reason..fabianyee, mind explaining some more about pumping the strut?:wink:need more info:rolleyes:

No such thing as pumping the rear to adjust the camber. It's adjustable to a certain degree and doesn't require any special tool. Any proper tire shop will be able to do this for you.

If you want to dial in more camber you'll need to replace the stock rear control arm to an aftermarket one.

Front is fixed as mentioned by fabian. If I'm not mistaken stock camber for front is somewhere in the region of -ve 1.0 to -ve 1.2. There's 2 alternatives to get more -ve camber for the front. You can either get the E36 M3 shock mount which has a -ve 2.0 camber or aftermarket camber kits.

Perhaps you should get 2nd opinion from a more reputable shop.. pumping the strut is the last resort... It would risk damaging the wheel bearings.

Do you happen to take down the values? and do u have problems with the car veering to one side when you take you hands off the steering when driving on a straight flat road?
