Dear Master Jedi, Does anyone know the cause of the ASC on my E36 M52B28 keep preventing my push beyond 200km/h? I only do it occationally on the express way ( to burn off carbon build up from city driving ) and only discovered this problem a few months back and this situation happened again last weekend while on my way back from KL. The acceleration starts smoothly towards 180km/h and upon exceeding 190km/h, the ASC light will come on and off and i could feel the fuel being restricted into the engine, preventing the car from going any further. This happens regardsless of smooth or less than perfect road condition. I have not tried switching off the ASC fearing the back might come loose due to lost of traction. Can it be due to poor/worn rear Bilstein B8 absorber? I had it inspected prior to my trip to find no suspension parts needed any attention. My rear tire is 245/40/17 and front is 225/45/17 with approx. 6000 km usage. There is also a replica GT2 rear spoiler to "help" with the downforce. Any advice on possible cause?

bro,not sure on the e36 but on the e39 the ASC can be switched off......perhaps you may and if can, want to try this first......?

the ASC light comes on when there is a difference in wheel speed (don't know by percentage).are the effective diameters of your front and rear wheels the same?

the ASC can be switch off on my car as well but i am not sure if it's safe to do so while pushing >200 km/h. The wheel on my car is standard ///M contour with recommended setup of 225 front and 245 rear.

When this problem start surfacing, i thought it was due to the uneven road surface during that ran but the latest incident, the road was quite smooth.

I am suspecting the shock absorber not able to keep the wheel on the ground during such speed....think so?

actually when the light is on, ASC on or off bro?

when the ASC light on your dash is on, the ASC is off. This is done by pressing the ASC button.
if while driving, the ASC light start blinking, then the ASC is activated due to wheel spin/ lost of traction. usually when driving aggressively out of corner but my case is the first as I have done >200km/h before without this problem.
Should the ASC light is turn on even the button is not pressed, then I believe it's time to spend some money

8080pbmw, maybe you need 2-stage rear diffuser to further help with the 'force' :) Good you see you back.

the 2nd stage add-on will be make my ride "too competition/race look" and send the wrong message. I also won't want to make my ride into a "Beng" machine.

Anyway, good to hear from you too. :top:

Take care!!

still didn't manage to try the run with ASC off. will see if the road are clear next week and free from speed traps.

i have the same problem before, after change to hamman absorber and spring, it solve until now, its because ur tyre is floating. if ur tyre is more than 2 years, change the tyre first. gud luck....

The Falken FK452 are still "new" with approx 7k km on it.

But my bilstein B8 with eibach pro spring has got 100K km on it.

I am also thinking it's time to spend some money to change the absorber.

thanks for the infors bro...

Just to update.

I have tried with ASC off and found the drive >200kph without any problem or hesitation.

So could it the rear shock absorbers not performing at it's optimum level and cause the wheel slip during high speed and the ASC starts kicking in to prevent the wheel spin by limiting throttle travel?

Anyway, my ride is due for service soon and perhaps the diagnostic machine can tell any error code.

Cheers.

Glad to hear.
Maybe your suspension is too soft, and there's too much wheel travel (you might need to lower it a bit)
I hit 200+km once awhile when needed. Never experience wheel spin expect raining.
And my ASC never comes on in my E36 325. Neither when driving aggressively out of corner.
( manual doesn't equipped with ASC :D)

8080pbmw,

Any solution to yr problem?

Just had my car diagnosed with "modic" at Chu Seng and error code points to (1) Throttle Mechanically Faulty
(2) Front Right Speed Sensor Faulty
(3) Front Left Speed Sensor Faulty

All the above was fully checked and cleaned.

There was not evident that shows any damage to the throttle side so it was suspected that the throttle switch had a bad contact.

Both front side speed sensors were covered with "metallic" dust and was cleaned.

Error codes was reset and did not pop back. There were also no other error codes on the car from other area.

So I'll wait for the next time when it is safe to check if the problem has been solved.

Total cost for the day: RM45 Oil Filter + RM38 Engine Flush + RM38 Labor Charges for Oil Service + RM 45 Modic Use + RM 60 Labor Charges For Service ABS Speed Sensors and Throttle Switch + RM 7.15 Gov Tax = RM 233.15. Grand total = RM 511.15 ( including the 2x 4L Shell Ultra i brought myself )

It was also E36 day :rock:at Chu Seng today as I have meet 6 other E36s with most of them fully ///M kitted loaded with some killer stickers.

will update again if my problem is not solved yet.

Thanks to all whom have given their much appreciated opinion and view to this issue.:five: :top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top::top:
