Eu Jax,

When I was hunting for one, I came across a E30 320i cabrio for sale by a German chap.

I think it was a 1990... white, chrome bumpers, manual hood, black leather interior, auto box but not switchable, no ABS.

Overall condition so so only... rear diff noisy..

He wanted abt 60K then...so I grabbed te one at Auto Tech even tho roof needed doing then cos it was cheaper, better overall condition and better spec.

It was still available about 2 weeks ago... but i think over priced. Whats ur budget anyway?

Hi docazani,

Well thanks for the info but RM60k really sounds rather high..and i preferred a manual transmission too. The rest sounds fine.

My budget would be around 40k++ but definitely not exiting 50k. Where is Auto Tech? U mean the one in the corner of SS2? Ohh, forget to congratulate you on a great car :)

Would love to see some pictures of your car if possible or maybe we can meet up next week end to appreciate your car? :) Thank you very much.

Regards

Eu Jax,

60K for that car was way too high. But I guess its a willing buyer/willing seller situation. To be honest, I havent yet seen a manual trans E30 cabrio in Malaysia.

Auto Technika is that corner place in SS2... thats where I got the car.

I have posted some pix of my car. Check out the Member's Rides section in the forum and its listed there...

Next Saturday, there are plans to meet up at the Projet station along MRR2 near the zoo. Its not far from where I live so I plan to pop down if I am not bz in hospital. I think its about 5 pm. Can check out details under Member Meet Ups in the forum...

Donald, thanks for the details. Sounds good but price is a little high though.
Probably coz it's a 92...
The only year of vert with plastic bumper if I'm not mistaken
Unless you are like Doc, who prefers the metal bumper

Thank you for the tip, scin :) I like both metal and plastic bumpers but those metal ones means they are non galvanised body right?

Doc,

Some questions for you. Does your convertible have any leaking issues due to the soft top? And is it particularly noisy while on the freeway when its closed? Just wanna know more bout it while in the hunt. Thanks Doc :)

Dear all,

If anyone is even THINKING of looking at the "1992 E30 cabrio" advertised in MT, please PM Tamade7 before you even go, ok?...

EuJax,
During a very heavy downpour..u know the ones where you cant see much even with wipers on at maximum speed... there are leaks from the top corners where the hood mates up to the bodywork. I suspect some rubbers need replacing but otherwise no leaks. I suppose each car will be different cos the condition of the rubbers will differ.

Cmpared to a normal enclosed car, yes it is noisier on the highways with the hood up. The E30 hood is single layer only, whereas the later e36 ones i think are double or triple layered. Anyway, since I have my hood down most mornings and evenings and I rarely am driving in the afternoons, its immaterial to me :D

I think whether the cars were galvanized or not depends on the year it was manufactured. In the saloons, I believe they started galvanizing with the facelift to plastic bumpers and new lights. However, the cabrios continued with the old lights and chrome bumpers until 1991 or 1992, but I believe they were still galvanized from when the line was facelifted, but I may be wrong. Certainly have no rust issues with my car at the moment.

Docazani

If ever you wanna have a look at the car to get some idea, give me a shout..

Maybe I should let all our forumers know that the 92 cabrio advertised on motortrader and the star has documentation issue. When I view the car it has two different chasis number. One on the body indicates a 320i and the other on the metal plate indicates a 318i. So for those who is interested just be aware of this and what might be the consequence.

Thanks Doc and Tamade7, those are great input :) Appreciate it very much. Will try to catch up soon with you people, i sure love to see your car, Doc :)

And it seems like your convertible is really impressive and fun ;) Wonderful Doc!

Meanwhile any further details or info from anyone is still welcome please :)

Thank you all.
