Aircond Problem: Took 1 min b4 any cool air after the engine starts.

Every morning when i first start my e60, the aircond blows out warm air and it tooks around 1min b4 i can feel the cool air. However, i works just fine for the rest of the day. Is this usual or there is a problem with my car. Another problem is with the idrive. Do u all every experience a black out, hang, etc etc. Its not frequent but it just happen from time to time. It just not very stable. Once again is this normal?

sounds like somethink wrong with the i drive function, a friends of mine have the same problem, done the diagnosis and result ...change the phone module and the probelm solve.is ur car still under warranty?

have u done the diagnosis ?

Hey me too... on teh aircond part !!!!! mine is longer, about 2 mins and more... lol... sometimes on a hot day... langsung half an hour easily

Hi everyone,
My car is still under warranty however the problem is very minor.
1. Aircond - its very cool for the rest of the day, just got problem with it when cold start. They told me this is normal no problem at all.
2. idrive - Very hard to show them the problem. its ok most of the time but it just gone crazy sometimes.

One more thing regarding the idrive. E.g if i were watching TV, then i shut down my car the next time i start my car the screen will display back to the main menu but the voice is still there. therefore i need to use the control to switch back the screen again. So annoying lah.. need to do it everytime, cant it just go back to the tv mode?

hi there,
the I drive have many function and the control unit are sharing the information to each other. suggest go to BMW dealer and get it check b4 get more problem such as :

cant check service info
check control function if any thing failure
oil level and tec....

hi, guy just to update u guys what i had discover.

The following message is from BMW website:
"Do not replace any parts. This is considered normal operation of the system. Explain to the customer that this condition may occur if the vehicle is parked for extended periods (greater than 8 hours). Over time liquid refrigerant can drain back into the compressor when the vehicle is parked. If the A/C system were to function at 100% right from startup the compressor would be damaged. The system is then started up gradually to prevent this from happening and extending the life of the compressor. Normally the system is functioning at 100% after 30-60 seconds, but in extreme conditions it may take up to 2 minutes for the system to function at 100%."

Ur A/c issue seems like ok...normally after parked for few hrs sue the pressure on the a/con system will drop and if u start again it will take some time to get back the pressure. 1 min is ok la...some even more than that eh....

I drive issue already rectify??

Can u explain why this happen? is there a problem?

And regarding the problem of the aircond. It became worst andand worst.
From 1min to 2min. Now 4min haiz

Dang. I tot the phone module is not important as it is not being used anyway. Does this apply to Jap spec car as well?

It depends, in my case, the compressor itself was the culprit. Changed it and problem solved.

if there is a problem, be it minor/major, so send it back to SC. what might seem a minor problem may turn major on your wallet and may be a major concern for your future buyer =)

i have the same problem recently, when morning, it may take 1-2 min to cool, but when in hot noon, it may take 3-5 min to cool, this never happen before, i think isabnormal, a mechanic said is compressor faulty, but it is a waste of money to change the compressor, I'm sure there are others alternative....

I also have this problem . My problem doesnt end at early start , but also whenever it idle at tranffic light of jam . While running , cool .Some says magnetic clutch . As i can live with the condition , i will just wait for the compressor to die or at least untill i have the budget for new compressor .

Hi All, I had a similar problem too sometime back last year and I took it to the so call air con specialist in Klang Valley, 2 of the shop said I need to replaced the compressor and quoted me approximately RM3,500. What you need to do is to replace the leak valve of the compressor, got the whole job done in less than RM650 as it is as good as new.
