my lovely E39 seems like start making some little problem here and there :(latest issue: aircon blowing hot air2 weeks ago blowing of hot air when starting my car early in the morning. bring it to aircon mech and told me that mostly likely is air is leaking, need to remove dashboard and do checking. He refilled the oil and gas and walla....aircon back again. he said this will last, the longest for 1 week. if back to hot air again, should come back for dashboard remove checking procedure.Last sat, my time has come, the aircon blown hot air again in the morning. i did search the forum for possible fault or remedies to solve this issue. possible issue could be the cooling coil. my compressor and fan clutch are ok and please help on possible fault before spending big money. also is there any reliable aircon mech in JB?HELP HELP...................................

Bro, i know a aircond specialist in Tmn Bukit Indah which the boss claimed that he repaired and specialize in continental car.

Somewhere around Tesco.

Prepare RM1500 for your case.

visit Naidu...i had the same problem...if there's still pressure, most likely compressor gone...

check your condenser. My problem settled after change the condenser. Maybe it leaked somewhere

damn, spend too much this month and some more this happen to me .....

bro, i am located in JB or else will go to the famous naidu.

just need to get a second opion from a aircon specialist in Jb to confirm before i do anything. anymore suggestion?

May be u can try to check with your mechanic if there has any leakage from the hose. They will fill up the aircond gas with some color liquid/gas and see if there has leakage. A simple quick check before u part out Rm1500..:4:

Tay, my previous E39's aircond was rectified by Naidu in 2008. Same symptom, blowing hot air. Costs me about RM2,150.00 for cooling coil, all the valve, oring, blower motor and labour. Have to pay him cash. One day job. Have to take out the whole dashboard.

Check your high pressure hose 1st, this is the hose which exits the air cond compressor. If it was cold after fixing and it suddenly becomes hot again it should be either the cooling coil or the high pressure hose.

Simple check, look for any trace of oil (compressor oil) at the following part/component:

1. Starting from condensor ( infront of your radiator), pipe/hose, connector,
2. Pipe / hose/connectors from cooling coil(low press) to the compressor, to the receiver dryer (hi press)

if no trace of oil
Most probably the leak is from evaporator, which require to open the dashborad, as far as i know e34 no need to remove the dashbord, not sure for e39.

if cooling coil leak
Early check before it goes hot air (totally no refrigerant), after a while of driving with air-cond on, park your car and place a clean container under you car where air-cond drain hose is located.
Check the water collected, if oily then, the leak is from evaporator (maybe cooling coil / o-ring / expansion valve).

fahami: thanks bro...will try your method first.

been busy this few days and will try to bring to my mech to check for condenser before bringing to aircon mech as he always trying to call me to open out the dashboard.

money is one thing, but not comfortable of opening up the dashboard because if they don't fix back properly, that will make me curse and swear again! (bad experience when i replace my roof liner, a,b and c pillar)

keep my figure cross and let me update you guys once i have send in for inspection for condenser.

To gain access to cooling coil in an e39, dash has to be removed. Something which i don't look forward for.

no problm bro,
It depends on who open the dashbord, since a/c is my field, most of the time i diy.

Yea really hate to see dirts on pillars, broken clips & etc, the worst is the labour charge (my friend e36 replace cooling coil RM3000. Labour RM1800). He did not know me at that time.

If dashbord to be removed.
It is a good time to clean up every part inside the housing including the cooling coil(if no leak), seal the housing properly, clean the blower motor & greased the carbon brush nicely you can surely feel the difrent.
Blower at 1st speed can feel like 2nd, the air will feel fresh & quiet.
My dashbord previously vibrate, i remade the sponge, and align it properly before retighten. now almost no vibrate. Also a good time to clean & shine the dashbord.

If you have time, stay with them while they remove, clean and reasemble.

Have a look at this:

Thanks for the link. Got it fixed as the cooling coil is leaking. Changed the cooling coil and filter and now works fine. But still feel that it is not cool enough :)

i just recently had this problem on my e36.. as what bmw7833.. 1.5k gone.. :(

Before changing your cooling coil, i remember there is a thread not older than 3 months - there is a place you can go and clean or flush the a/c system for a few hundred ringgit and it works. Ask Amoisky coz i think she used this place. I might try this one day
