not to worry bro, Everybody have to start from somewhere.

Do read up the subject about E36 thread. There are many useful information and lesson to be learn for first timer to the BMW.

E36 are getting relatively affordable nowadays but then again the car is about 14 to 10 years old. Do reserve some money to maintain the car when you buy it.

Do take your time looking for a good condition car. Do not rush. Do seek the advise of the brothers in the forum if you see a good buy as some here may know the full history of the car. Last word of advise, do bring along a BMW specialist when inspecting details. Last thing you want is a car that looks good only on the surface but will end up in the workshop most of the time...

thanks :) yes its an old car but a good one i must say.

well how much different does a 318 e36 compare to iswara in term of maintainance n fuel consumption.

owh... where can i get a bmw specialist when i want to take a look at the car?

Try making friends with any of the forumers who is willing to spare their time to help out a new brother in the family. better yet, get to know a forumer who can recommend a bmw mechanic who knows his stuff. caution : not all bmw mechanics ...are bmw mechanics, haha!

Hi Bro hafiz, for me e36 318 is not too hard to maintain and i'm using it for the daily
drive. For the normal service, its just like others jap cars and its not too expensive
due to its only have 4 cycl, 4 spark plugs and used only 1 bottle oil. Everytime i do
the car service only spent out not more than rm300. For 318, its a bit under power
but if your're not a person who's like to drive fast, i think 318 just enough for daily
drive. If you think of the performance and like to drive fast, so go for 325 or 328.
Pls bare in mind, BMW car is a pampered car, you must follow the schedule on time
to replace any broken parts without any delay. If not, you'll facing huge trouble in
future. So, if you tend to buy the 2nd hand car, pls allocate some money around
rm5k to 10k for wear and tear parts for replacement, coz we don't know how well
the previous owner taken care of the car. Do not rushing, you got to spend some
time and be cool for searching the car. Below are some tips for you to check on the
second hand car, might be other sifus can add-on more.

Tips:
1) Pls check any leaking for the radiator(water level) ***the most important***
2) Check all the hose (for radiator connections) whether its still in good condition
3) Try to observe any water leaking at the water pump area.
4) Check any oil leaking (top and bottom engine)
5) Check the oil deep stick, try to observe is there any particles mixed up with the engine oil
6) Try to start the engine and wait about 10 to 15mins then ensure that the radiator fan
is trigger to turn on whenever the temp gauge touch at the middle level.
7) Test drive and try to shift the gear to ensure that no hard jerking during the gear
shifting. Gearbox quite expensive lor... heheheh...
8) Check the aircond, working or not
9) Try to check the car's frame, to ensure that its not the potong kereta.
10) First thing to do, pls change the oil engine and gear box oil after you got the car.

After you got your dream car, then we can start to racun you... huhuh...

Anyway, good luck on your hunting BMW...

thank you all :D Haha...im into photography and racun2 ni dah biasa dengar :p killing me softly though :p

Im getting there slowly. Well im kindda scared about the maintainance part so i need to get some really good friends in here who can advice me and when i want to buy the car can come tag along and advice all together. Advce on the best way to get good condition and less money spend etc etc :D

Thank you all again. any more advice from dear sifu :D

the guys here are giving you very sound advice.. make friends with current owners, get a feel of what you're planning to get into, then only make your decision. comparing E36 to iswara is like pitting apples against oranges.

Thanks :D Hehe...kindda orange and apple :D Just want to see how much different does it take when doing maintainance and when fueling.

Hurm... i am really happy to have so much BMW entituhious in this forum advising me. Thank you very much.

i want to make good friend with all of you. Whenever there is any TT, ill do my best to be there. :top:

Looking forward to own MY BMW. Need to really look around for a great deal.

bro azam ,
i really hope these tips are not based on your personal experience on your
current car - must have been costly . just kidding ! he he he

a few other tips that come to my mind
1) try to get the one that come with the body kit ...or you'll end up spending
another 4-5k :listen:
2) change the timing belt (if it's M40 ) once you get the car
3) note that it's quite difficult to get a bank loan as they are more than 10 years .
maybe ~ 60% with 3 years repayment with slightly higher interest rate

Got that:
1) Good body kit
2) Fine one with timing chain
3) I get my father to pay for the car 1st then i refinance. that way is easier i believe so.

Hurm... thank you sir :D

Owh... regular maintainance of e36 is how much?

Amsyar, i believe Jarance was kind enough to direct you to the thread related to maintenance for E36 (please see # 2)

Please take the time and effort to read up so we can spend more time addressing the more specific issues and not issues that are already shared and discussed.

Come for the official TT. Make some friends. Trust me , you will learn more about the UDM by buying teh tarik all around rather than asking quations via the forum.
