was driving during saturday for the heavy rain pourwiper was ON at position 2 with frequent set to MAXwhen i stop my car at traffic light or slow down (gear still at D)the wiper stopped n just wipe 1 or 2 timecompare to fast wiping while i was cruisingany sifus here care to share this experience or enlighten me about this? :p Thank you !

leakwoon,

it has been pre-programmed in this manner, no matter how fast you set the wiper speed, it will automatic slow it down when you stop.

Well there is a reason for this program, but don't know how to explain to you. :D

anyone care to share?

Yes, even E36 also have this function.

When your car is stationary, you don't need to wipe that fast or don't need it at all. Cars without this function, during stationary times, u will need to off the wiper manually or slow it down like what I used to do. With a BMW, we don't need to do that. It's for convenience.. thats why it's called a BMW.

so does it called as "adaptive" wiper :D

wat to hear more from all the udm owners' experince :)

used to have it on my old '90 5. this feature leakwoon reduces wear (however little) amongst others ,

rubber blade on wiper,
wiper motor wear
washer wear
uses less power when not necessary
also makes less noise (u know the wiper and windscreen funny noises)

i had to add another washer onto the part where my wiper is bolted onto the body because my washer became thinner and the motor was lose. to get the original set of stuff was expensive so my fren just put an extra washer in for me. sold the car ady so not worrying about it.

my question is why does my '02 e46 FL not have this function. what a rip off. even my so old car got!

or maybe it's programmable?

All udm come with this function this is what they call the speed sensitive / sensing wiper which is the same as the radio it will automatically increase the volume when the car goes faster.

Try yourself all udn have this function......

got meh?

the rain sensor system, never work fast enuf in heavy rain also. dont say speed sensing.. i din notice.

radio it will automatically increase the volume when the car goes faster.

My 93 E34 also has this feature

If i am not wrong u can actually set the sensitivity of the speed volume increase at the radio...like u set the mute function at the radio....

Sounds normal. Wiper speed will drop to a lower setting when stationary. Its described in the manual as well.
