Hello all!
I just got my 630i (E63 / 2006 / 3.0 Auto) last month and last week only managed to get it registered (brought back from UK using student AP - my lil' sister studied there).
The car has not been serviced for about 2 years (when bought it in the UK just left it at the storage till the time to send it back home and the storage people run the engine once a week) but thank God everything mostly it's still working well when I drove it around a little bit (from Port Klang to my house in Kajang, then to Puspakom in Bangi).
Now, since I'm a TOTAL NEWBIE in maintaining & servicing BMW (I've been a driver+car owner for >10 years but never owned BMW before), there're some questions here that I really hope you guys can help:
1a. There's the " ! " in the odometer screen - I know the car already passed the service mileage reminder, but I do think there are some other problems too as the aircond is not cold at all - is this " ! " sign normal or does it indicate a problem?
1b. Can any normal workshop rectify it? Because I think they need to plug in some computer for error-indicator removal.
I've a regular workshop here in Kajang (ShamAuto - service & repair all types of cars - proton, honda, kia, toyota etc.) that me & my family have been with for many years and their service good and the price is reasonable - is it okay for me to just bring my E63 there although I hardly see any Conti cars sent there?
1c. Or do I need to send to a BMW-specialist workshop as recommended in this forum or this normal workshop can do the job*?
When I bought the BMW in the UK, the salesperson told me the computer will tell what&when to service what - I highly doubt my regular ShamAuto has the computer to connect to my E63 to check for problems.
By the way here’s one workshop I found after going through the thread “List of Good Workshops”:
“Any good workshops around Bangi?”
“Try Supeme Auto Works..Asnawi, 017-6114671, 10 Jalan 9/6, Seksyen 9, BBB..Did my svc there, they are OPAL panel.”
è Any comment/experience with this workshop?
2. Currently I plan to have my car serviced for these 7 things:
i. computer check
ii. aircond - check (& service if required)
iii. engine flush - since too long havn't serviced, think many unwanted deposits in there
iv. engine oil + oil filter replace
v. radiator bleed & put in new coolants
vi. spark plug - check if need replacement
vii. replace air filter
--> What is the estimated labour cost for all 7 services above as I plan to get myself the oils, lubes & coolants
3. What is the recommended engine oil for this car?
Service manual recommends (this car is made for use in the UK, so I think the service manual recommend engine oil for the use in UK and NOT for tropically hot M'sia):
Preferred:
a. BMW Longlife-01FE i.e. Liqui Moly TOP TEC 4200 5W-30
b. BMW Longlife-01 i.e. Liqui Moly TOP TEC 4200 5W-30 and Liqui Moly LEICHTLAUF HIGH TECH 5W-40
Alternative:
c. BMW Longlife-98
d. BMW Longlife
e. ACEA A3
Thanks in advance all - hope to join this club's TT-session soon!
