Hi all, Good day. I'm a newbie, CH based in KL. I've been looking for a 5 series for some time now, and have narrowed down to the above choices (2004-2005).I have read through many forums but still do not get the answers to my queries. Hopefully sifus here can help. My issues, as in many other BMW newbies, are as follow:1. Reliability : I know that diesel engine has higher torque, and I prefer it over hp, which is why 530D is in my shortlist. But then again, for both these engines, how reliable are they, as in after 200,000km, will it give way, coupled with the transmission issues?2. Maintenance : Some owners mentioned normal maintenance, as in oil and filter change is enough to take care of the car. Diesel in particular, will need more TLC, esp the "diesel filter". Apart from these, are there anything else to look out for?3. Parts : I understand the parts are expensive, but I need to draw comparison to my Accord. I don't think Japanese parts are cheap, but are the BMW parts cost even more?I know there's nothing can be done on the depreciation; to me the experience in driving can make up for it.Many thanks in advance to all!

Torque, torque and torque.

530d is like a sleeper's car [fave term used by those Brits], loads of torque under the hood. Besides, I've read many rave reviews of the 530d being the preferred car of choice if wanting to opt for the E60s; reason being that more power can be derived from the car. :top:

Yup, that's the reason it's in my shortlist as well; torque. The main concern is the diesel quality, and I'm sure I'm sounding like an old record here. I read that as long as the diesel filter(?) is changed diligently, all should be well, but some forum pointed out that regardless of what we do, due to the diesel quality we have here, there's nothing much can be done, and that the engine will operate at a lower performance level, and it will reduce the lifespan as well.

Would really appreciate owners or sifu for some pointers here. Thanks again :)

seems that 530d used price is cheaper than 530i as well. 530d is faster i'm pretty sure

Hi,

If you are still looking to buy and have decided on 530D you may PM me as I am considering selling my car. Otherwise give me a call on 012-3000111 for details.

Regardless of all the comments, unless one owned one before one would not be able to fully appreciate it.

Just be warned of the diesel bite once you have tasted it. I am upgrading to another diesel.

Thanks and happy hunting.
