Dear sifus,

I hv been offered to buy my company 2009 525i with half the market value. If I take the car I will be entitle for car maintenance allowance about RM18k/year.

As I never own any bmw, I have to idea of what to expect in term of ownership cost for this car (insurance, roadtax, maintenance and etc).

As I hv been given 1 week to make decision, I would be greatly appreciate all your kind comment and advice.

I dont know what to expect as I never own any luxury class car. Should I take the offer? And will 18k/year would be sufficient? really need help from sifu here

Thanks a lot

RM18k is more than sufficient to maintain the car to tip top condition. Grab the car fast and join us as Official member so that you would know the in and out of maintaining the e60 525i.

P/S: Please do not open/post multiple threads of the same subject.

perhaps for you if no company car, aeroplane would do..

I don't mean to pour cold water but 18k pa works out to RM1500 per month for car allowance. I'm skeptical that this amount is adequate to cover repair, maintenance, petrol, road tax & insurance for E60, bro?

Question like this is actually very difficult to answer. It is largely depending on the condition of the car at the point of takingover. If the owner/driver is a very meticulous type, even a scratch will also warrant taking leave the next day. Meaning the expenses could be anything but less.

During the 2 years of ownership (mine was a 525i E60 LCi year 2009, local) the most expensive item was the RFTs. A cool 6.5k then (Michelins). Other than this, the rest were regular oil change plus filters etc. Mileage was about 2k kms monthly. No major repairs as the car was relatively new (2 years old when I acquired it) But be wary of the battery. Use original and change it at the dealers.

Acong - did you take up the offer? Do let us know

i bought a used J-Spec M-sport 525 2008 November last year. i am the 3rd owner of the car. I don't want to be scaring people for owning a beemer but so far i have spent close to 50k replacing parts and servicing the car. This includes m-sport shocks, the whole gearbox (half cut), set of michelin 18's, whole steereng rack, wear n tear parts etc etc. So far its in good driveable condition. To me if buying a used car be prepared to fork out cash as we can't estimate the breakdowns. Maybe its just my luck that my car needs 'extra' pampering. :67:

having the car in top working condition really would test ur patience. some ppl cant stand small niggling issues (like i do!!) and would change/repair at every slight irritation. yes.... its not just any TLC.... and since its already on its 3rd owner, almost all wear n tear + maintenance has to changed/performed.
