Hey guys, I'm a newbie here so please bare with me ya.I'm planning to upgrade my Civic FD2 and i kinda like the E92. My question: is a 2007 Japan 320i with out iDrive costing RM 170k worth it? I'm kinda worried for the niggles associated with iDrives which went wrong and costs a lot to rectify. Pls advise.Or should i go for a local 325i year 2008 for the same price instead?

If you are worried you can buy 3rd party warranty insurance cover for the car. I think the iDrive is covered by Opal Insurance, although I've been told by someone in this forum that there are other insurance companies that covers even more items than the Opal one. The Opal insurance you can buy for car less than 5 years old.

But frankly, my ex-E60, current E90 and E93 all has iDrive and with the combined 4-5 years of ownership, never had any problems with the iDrive (2 the older iDrive + 1 the newer iDrive). The older iDrive is not as friendly as the new one though. Not sure if the 2008 gets the new iDrive (my E90 2010 model comes with it).

I personally like the BMW 6 cylinder engine... smooth and creamy...

Maintenance of the car would be more ex than the Civic I should think... But the pleasure of driving the car would also be much more.

Dun let idrive be the deciding factor.... 325 does performs better. If u r used to fd2, 320 may be a bit sluggish unless its diesel. Yr money, your decision, your joy....both also are great machines.

There are inherent risk in anything we partake be it walking of skydiving...

Making informed decision with adequate research lessens the risk but alas do not eliminate it.

Insurance is more than buying into comfort when something does go wrong but isn't a complete answer.

Knowing what you are getting into with full service history of the unit and a full pre inspection check/diagnostic is a MUST.

Guarantee does not last forever!

Its like marrying a girl... you'd want to know her, the company she keeps, the family she is from, how temperamental she could be etc etc

Same goes with a car. What makes her tick, does her pedigree suit you, etc etc...

End of the day, you mary the girl that you love anyways, irrespective of what others say!

So just gut up and jump to what your heart desires... If you don't like or get weary of her after 2-3 years, trade in and get a replacement.

At least, its cheaper than a divorce!

Excuse my ramblings... but thats just how life is :)

Happy hunting and do update us with pics of your impending bride...

Expensive in my opinion. The local if it comes with a service history is a better deal and the 325i is a much nicer car than the 320i.

320i e90 from posts of this forum is slower than civic 2.0

Every road-worthy car can do 200 km/hr but quality and safety of the ride are equally important, I think...

It's not about the speed or how fast the car can go.. But reliability.. Choose 325i bro..

Ca someone share some opinions as I'm new to the 3 series BMW. I'm looking at a 2007 E93 320, this one comes with i drive. They are asking for 195K, it is worth to buy?

Stay away from the old 4 cylinder engines. Either get the new 2.0L turbocharged or anything that comes in inline 6.

Thanks for your advise. I wonder if you can elloborate a little bit further on this, what is the problem of the 4 cylinder engines? My concern is more on a reliable engine and design rather than power and speed.

I would suggest atleast 325 rather than the 4 cylinders 320.

Test drive one and you will feel the diff. On top of that, nowadays, with the budget of RM190K and above, you can get a nice 325i, e92.
