Hi guys. Anyone experienced weak braking on your 1996 BMW E36 318i? Brake pedal still feels hard and not like when you step on it it went all the way to the floor. For my case it still have pressure but the braking is almost none existent.

Could it be a vacum leak?
A bad Master Pump?
Is there a Relay in the braking system?

Would appreciate if anyone could point at the direction for diagnose. Thanks in advance.

Your brake booster is not working properly, which is why you have no brake assist (pedal feels hard) and weak braking. Most likely its due to a bad one-way valve not holding vacuum in the brake booster. The air hoses before and after the valve could be screwed. The clip fastening the air hose to the intake manifold could be weak.

But it could also be due to a perforated diapghram in your brake booster.

If you don't immediately know what I'm talking about, you need to bring your car to a normal ordinary workshop and ask him to check on your one way valve connected to the brake booster.
