Visit my favourite tyre shop in BBU JB, on 16.07.09....saw 1 set 18 inch BMW rim (new).I was told by the salesperson this set is 'ngam' with e60.Decide to swap with my current rim (standard E60 530i recond j spec04- tyre RFT 225/50/17).Price after trade in, top up another RM3.5k..feel a bit strange after install so took for a spin.Very obvious vibration felt when drive up to 80kmh.Somehow noticed that the tyre shop fit my car with 225/40/18.Complain back to the shop cause i think those tyres are too small. He asked me to came back the next day to fit toyo 235/45/18 and add another RM 1220.so...swap new tyres on 17.07.09...look nice but vibration still felt at 80kmh-120kmh...go back to the tyre shop..He asked me to come back next day and do on wheel balancing...so today done on wheel balancing but the vibration problem is still there....WHAT WENT WRONG?MUST USE STANDARD M SPORT TYRE SPEC 245/40/18?HOW TO SOLVE VIBRATION?SIFU...PLEASE HELP...:106:

Central hub diameter not 'ngam'.. what rim is that? Is it specified for E60?

Can elaborate more on CENTRAL HUB DIAMETER? ...never heard about it before..i don't really know what type of rim i've bought but attached here are the photo....

sifu, kindly advised further...and how to talk to the tyre shop..going back there on monday morning...

The tyre shop does not familiar to our car..

The rims probably came off from e39.

Is that initialM rims??????

Don't think those rims for meant for e60

Best you check with regular BMW "kakis" like us here for those standard e60 rims or if want to go for an aftermarket ones, go only for the ORIGINALS, never ever go for the CHEAP ones, better to keep the standard than to put on some CHEAP fakes on our BMWs.

You can check all the available standard e60 rims here:

http://www.e60.net/information/

Aftermarket brands, ONLY go with the trusted brands. Many people are not aware but rims (wheels) and tires are VERY VERY important to vehicles.

I can not understand why many of those cheap counterfeits are out there to put people's lives at risk. NEVER buy CHEAP rims, man.

Best regards,

Oh man.. I feel for you. The specs all wrong already. Even tyre size is off for your car, and likely wheel width and offsets as well. Another possibly is they didn't mount the tyre right and its hopping. You may need to take it to another tyre shop or BMW for that matter who have better more advanced mounting machines to rid the problem. Old skool way of brute force + long iron rod to mount it causes such issues.

Why not go with OEM M sport 18's? Better 2nd hand value with your BMW with OEM or high end wheels.

I experienced the same 3rd party m5 rim as yours before. Same issue at high speed. Steering vibration and car not steady.
After I changed to original M sport rim, ALL THE PROBLEM GONE!
Will never go for non ori rim again...

BTW, always follow the spec and use 245/40/18 as suggested by BMW.
Using any other size may damage your engine, so I was told.

It may be a fake rim or wrong offset corrected with centrebore. BMW are known to the most fussy car, feed her well she run fast, fit her badly she will just kick you.

Hi I see your Problem , Most Rims for Higher End Cars Should be HUB Centric , Hub Cetricity is the Term used to describe the Bore of your Wheels , On an E60 iF the Inside Bore of your Rim is Different from the Outside Bore on the Hub , Vibration Will result , Perhaps it may be an Idea to add a Hub Centric Ring which may sort the Problem out , But I firmly Believe that If the Wheel is out of Spec for your Vehicle , DO NOT USE it , This is only a Recipe for Disaster Later On , and Can Lead to other more expensive complications , like Ball joint trouble and a Host of Other Problems ,

As a Guideline any wheels for an E60 have to follow the Following Specs to be Suited to your Vehicle and Ensure a Hassle free Ride:
Front should be 18x8.5j Bore 72
Rear Should be 18x9.5j Bore 72

Thanks

shacking or vibrate? if shacking, the center bore rims not suit with your car.u must make hand make center bore on engineering work shop.here some pic.if vibrating, check ur long shaft coupling.gud luck bro!!!

Or it could be that the rims themselves are not balanced, just a thought

Sorry guys! late update....
Confirm centre bore not ngam.Go back to the tyre shop and insist them to fix a centre cone but minor vibration still felt at certain speed although i'ts improving.Follow few advise from fellow forummer, try to check out few reputable tyre shop in JB and finally found a used set of BMW OEM rims (style 123) sometime before hari raya at Autobac Sdn. Bhd..Trade in the existing rim and Voila! ...problem solved......autobac people told me that those rim are actually for E39..to all newbies like me, be careful with shops bearing BMW logo...not all boleh pakai! do check with our sifu's....most shop think if we drive an E60, kita ada mesin cap duit!... tq to all sifu's!
