04 525i two months after ownership

Purchased a 2004 525i uk spec abt 2 moths ago, so far its been good except for an 'Trasnmission Fault' warning, it has happened twice so far during slow traffic crawl. Since i had 3 months warranty from the dealer, they replaced the gearbox oil plus the filter. However the fault came up again last week, the dealer has ordered a new mechatronic and is waiting for the parts and hopefully be sorted by next week. Since i have less than a month of warranty left, is there other things that i should be looking out for?. There are also a few minor issues:1.Door rattles especially at night, seems quieter during a hot day 2.Fuel cap door seems unlocked despite the doors are locked

Advise you to take it to another mechanic for a second opinion. Sometimes these dealers just seek to give you a more cost-efficient (read - cheaper) solution as a stopgap while hoping the real more expensive problem does not happen during the warranty period.

In my case, mine came out "Charging Fault". They told me it was wiring problem, but my regular mech told me was alternator issue. I told them this and made them promise that if was really alternator issue, they would replace it even if after warranty over. True enough, alternator conked. Lucky dealer kept to word and replaced it for me.

But to give credit where credit is due, that salesman was good even in after-service. My alternator actually conked with whole family inside while coming back from a holiday some distance from home. Lucky salesman came and took my whole family back to my house while arranging for tow truck to take my car to workshop.
