Hotter 1.6 civics still only had twin carbs / first gen PGM-F1 Si engine. The B6 was also making waves, but there were no other 1.3 hatches worthy of comparison. Charade Gtti springs to mind immediately, but for some reason, they never caught on. Poor handling perhaps? With a sub-1 ton weight and killer handling the GTI was automatically destined for greatness. Now, there's an incredible variety of sub-hatch / superminis featuring awesome technology (see 4WD turbo tiptronic 1.3 Daihatsu YRV of a few years back even), but none of which are worthy of being the driver's choice. Not even the Jazz, which I think is a competent, but certainly not a communicative, machine. Its not meant to be.</blockquote>
