My Z3 softtop has a small problem. Everytime when there's heavy rain, water gets in at the joint between the front windscreen and side window at the top. I've check all the rubbers. It's in good condition. Sent to few workshops but they can't rectify the problem. Any suggestions where to get a good workshop who knows how to repair Z3 softtop leakage? Thankshttp://www.allyhunt.com/cms/updates/...-the-fast-lane

Hi joshcwj,is common 4 a z3 2 leak.My client Z3 used 2 leaked aswell like a water droplet wen is raining.Try go waterproofing ur convertible it cost u bout 400rm or u can go to this website 2 check it out www.sl-convertableroof.com or call 012-3305847.Hope tis will help u....

joshcwj,

sent z3 before to sl-convertable roof. the owner is sam, and he managed to solve the water leak. According to him, alignment of the roof top slightly out, and plus need to sew/attach another piece of cloth (this guy a bit creative !). well it works !

can try out with him, i can recommend.

if you are lucky, you could see there is one rare white 850csi convertible undergoing repair on the roof top

Heya Josh...
Here's a tip that worked on mine. My rubber insulation was in pristine condition but it leaked right where u mentioned when it rains heavily. :p
I was perplexed. I inspected the joints closely and realised that whenever u lower and raise ur soft top, there's this tiny rubber joint flap/lip between the front windscreen and side window that needs to be pried/lifted up with ur fingers to stop leakages. The tiny rubber lip/flap looked rather insignificant but it WORKED when i merely lifted it up to cover the edge of the side window glass panel. Try it. :p Save u some $$$ It isnt spoiled actually.

gcarch, thanks for your advice. I'm still trying to figure out what you're saying. Are you in KL or PJ? Easiest is still letting you show me how you do it :)

Regards,
Joshua

lols..honestly..I didnt expect u to understand what I wrote, readin back, I couldnt understand a word I was saying too. lols.:wink::burnout:

Am from Penang, unfortunately. :rolleyes::burnout:

I'll snap a few photographs for you. It leaks everytime I raise my roof without flipping the rubber lip back to it's intended position. Stops leaking everytime I flip it back. lols. :top:

Email me at gcarch@gmail.com
I'll reply with photos.

Btw...sanjay's power steering failure kinda scared the S*** out of me. Is it a common flaw with Z3's?

Hi gcarch,

Sanjay's ride is a Z4, the first in BMW's stable to use the electro-mechanical power assisted steering system, the other being the BMW Mini.

Z3 still uses the good old hydraulics so no worries to you mate!

OMG omg omg! Thanks heaps TKW... thx for clearing that up...freaked out. Good old hydraulics. :top: :burnout:

Btw..I just found out that the rubber lining along the edges of the soft top which seals doors are pretty expensive. RM1668+ for a set (left & right) And thats just rubber. :burnout::wink:

Check ur mail Josh.. :) hope it works for you as it did for me and saved me $$$$$ lols.

Hi Gcarch, my fren's Z3 also leak. Please let me know how you solve it ( pics ??? ) .Tks

:top:Heyz, I cant guarantee it works for all cases. It worked on mine. I suppose sometimes it may be due to badly worn rubber insulation or merely a case of mis-positioned rubber lips at certain critical points. :) Just email me if you need the photos. I'll try to forward them to you asap.

Bro,
Looks like I still have to spend $$ to repair the leaking. I've tried your recommendation. It works on the driver's seat but the passenger's still leaks. The rubber condition is still in good though. Maybe the issue is due to the soft top. Thanks anyway for the photos. Cool!

So sorry it didnt work for you Josh... ur most welcomed... cheers.

Shine like mirror

You may keep the plastic screen of soft top shines like mirror with kit wax polish. You may use super glue between plastic screen and rubber trim to keep it firm-but Never use super glue on fabric.
