Guys,I need a remedy for my X5. I experienced vibrations from the engine when the gears are in P & D. The vibrations seem to disappear when it is engaged in N. I suspected that the mountings might have worn off so I had it changed - both the engine and the gearbox mountings but its not helping. I had all the contact points checked and nothing suspicious were found. The vibrations seem to taper off sometime but it returns and it is very annoying. I also tried increasing the RPM by 50 but it is of no help. Hence eliminating possibility of an ECU defect. Both the mechanic (Cartrade) and myself suspected that the flywheel might be warped resulting in the irregular movements but we are not certain. Anybody with similar problems who can give a piece of advice ? ThanksD

D, ur ex-Altezza is faster around corners than the X lah.

Maybe your X5 engine is on race cams???? :p

Which mechanic at Cartrade - was it Henry? Did the mechanic comment on whether other X5 owners have the same symptons? Wireless, maybe you can check with Ramlan whether his X5 have the same symptons.

D, I still think you look better in a 2 door car. :) Call me on Monday. Bring you somewhere.
Wah! this is the first time i have heard that flywheel warp. I advise you better get another experience mech to check it out. My recommend you to BMWorld at Kampong Pandan, as they are expert on X5, & should be able to solve your problem.
Cheers

Hi D,

I'm not sure whether X5 has a flywheel or not. Normally for an automatic transmission vehicles, the flywheel is the torque coverter itself and this TC is bolted to a thin round plate which attached to the engine crankshaft. If these bolts are loose/broken etcs you may hear a cracking sound while idling. I guess the problem you are facing lies on the gearbox. When did you last change your ATF? Are you using correct ATF? Please check and I will be glad to hear from you soon.
