Guys, Need some inputs on BMW sunroof. Any different between with sunroof & without sunroof in term of chasis rigidity? Any effect on the handling & stability? Thanks for the advice.

if it comes factory fitted then the rigidity of the chassis is maintained and shouldn't have any problems interms of handling and stability ....

unless you do the cutting and fitting , you may loose the rigidity of the top frame chassis ...

The other problem you'll have with the water irrigation on the roof or the car if you saw off the whole roof. The fluidity of the longkang's surface will be compromised resulting in water flowing abnormally.

Buy convertible or buy original 535d with sunroof la, tak payah susah. Selamat Hari Raya macha:)

As ICEMAN said i think factory fitted 'roofs are fine. As long as its factory i'm sure enough R&D and reinforcement has gone into it.For example, the cooper s has a massive panoramic roof but it still drives like a dream.

Don't do it! Next time cannot sell car because Puspakom say u sambung kereta..

Guys thanx for the inputs. Actually some of you misundertood my enquiry.
I was asking the different between car with & without sunroof. Of course those comes with ori sunroof. This is for my next car. No way I install at my current car. I want it to be ori. Even to cut the fender wt ///M grill oso I dun dare. Thanks again for all inputs:top:

well in that case go for the sunroof ...looks better too and of course shows that its a CBU...though if you ask me I have had a few cars with sunroof... only the kids enjoy sticking their heads out around the neighbourhood....underthan that serves no additional fucntion in this beautiful hot country of ours....

I got my E90 with a sunroof too. After nearly 2 years of ownership, I still enjoy it very much...In fact it is easier to sell too in future coz it's rare in the market.

Bad effect:
1. Poor workmanship can lead to leak and rust.
2. The extra weight carried by the roof will totally upset the drivability of the car because the CG is shifted upwards, more body roll felt.
3. Car is penalised by additional weight, affecting pick up and FC.
4. I have heard a Perdana added the roof and now the car cannot sell because JPJ insist its a illegal kereta potong. He's stuck with the car for life!
5. If it's glass type, u will feel the heat coming into the cabin through your head.

Good effect:
1. Looks cool because most other car on the Malaysian road dun have it.
2. Pop it up a little and can release heat effectively after parking long hour in hot tropical sun.
3. Smoker will love it because its an excellent vent for extracting smokes out from the cabin.

Salut

sometimes when its too hot the sunroof gets stuck due to expansion. just when u think u want to open the 'roof to air the car it wont open.

Go with the sunroof as it is an added feature which you have and can use them later...whenever you wanna too...the drawback is that you have additional parts to maintain like the rubbers and lubricating the guiderails...Should you go for one...as you are do take care of your ride well...please inspect and change the rubber if required...

I tend to choose cars without sunroof..it's a personal choice thing.

A sunroof would add weight to an area which affects ur center of gravity in an adverse way when it comes to the handling of the car.Granted the effects are small especially on a passenger car made for use on the road but it does make a difference, however slight.Ever wonder why most //M cars come with carbonfibre roofs?

A sunroof also adds to the roof more moving parts that could and will go wrong at some point in time.

Reasons enough for me personally to avoid cars with a sunroof.Again,it's a personal choice and there is no right or wrong.Just a matter of choice.

Used to own a M/B 300SE with sunroof and haven't had any problems after using for more than 5 years. Again like what Supergripen said, it is all about personal choice.
