Good one there Sith, ...much has been written about Malmsteen and his technique. Brutal attack on his Strat, flying fingers with all sorts of arpeggios and harmonics. Speed freak but not to my liking, too technical and not enough melody. A Blackmore wanna be in his early days and still dresses like his guru (but fat and ugly now). Steve Vai: Now we are talking. Vai used to play lead guitar for Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention (remember Purple's Smoke On The Water, song was written about them) Vai also dabbles with lots of electronics, feedback, whammy bar (tremelo arm) as well as mastered the art of "tapping" Watched Steve Vai live twice...at Hard Rock, KL and Rentak Asia. My fav Vai album is his intrumental one called The 7th song.....A compilation of the 7th song from his various albums....pay special attention to "For The Love Of God" Joe Satriani : My Hero! Joe and Steve lived in the same neighbourhood and Joe Satriani taught Steve Vai how to play guitar. Joe was guitar lecturer in the University (not sure which, probably Uni of Berkerly) My fav album: "Surfing with the Alien"....If im not wrong, that album was a the first to win a Grammy for intrumental (never won before by a "rock" guitarist) Fav song: "Always With You, Always With Me"....and Crying. Joe also performed here in Malaysia, better known as G3 during Rentak Asia Concert along with Steve Vai and Eric Johnson.... He has vowed never to come back! What a flop concert, I'll write about that later.
