Wheel Spacer

does anyone knows whether putting on a wheel spacer (to push out the tyre a bit, to make it look huge) will compromise the handling of a stock e46 bmw?no particular reason, it just that i think pushing the wheel out a bit will make my beemer looks nicer!any feedback?TQ:stupid:

your car will handle slightly better as it will have a wider track at the back.

it's like having staggered wheels, but not the grip as your tyres will still be the same width.

only thing is, there will be a lot of stress put on the spacers. so no fast and furious like going on the track.

and make sure you get a reliable set of spacers - established brand and all that...

depends on the rims you are using. some rims need special spacers with spigots on them, e.g. ac schnitzer. but most spacers are universal. just make sure that they cater to BMW specs - PCD 5 x 120, bore:72.5mm (i think) if you plan to use your existing rims.

also find out the tolerance of the spacers. most reputable brands will provide you with the tolerance specs, just like rims. it's not just based on speed, it's the amount of stress it can be subjected to.

spacers are like the extension on your rims, and just like rims, they have to be hubcentric. if your rims are hubcentric, then your steering and car will not vibrate, regardless of the speed you are traveling at. but if your rims are not hubcentric and you are already experiencing vibration, then spacers will only amplify the vibration.
