Hi all,What would the usual temperature be for an e30? Must it be below half to be on the safe side? Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks.RegardsJacky

if u're using the 88 degree C thermostat, it shud be just a hairline below the mid-point...

How do i know if its the 88 degree C thermostat? And what would the difference be if its another thermostat?

Regards

another one is lower... I think it's 70 degree C... so where would u think the needle would be???
btw, where's the needle pointing now in your Temp Gauge??

Needle pointing above half, around 3 quater of the entire gauge in my e30 while stationery. What seems to be the problem? Might need to drive outstation so any quick advice will be very helpful. Thanks Fabian.

Normal reading's should be just below the halfway point, during traffic jams, the needle should be just above the or slightly more than half.

Get the thermostat checked.

Anymore advice? :) Really want to solve this as soon as possible. Thanks.

If u temperature is almost or near the 3/4 mark, did ur car take a long time to warm up. If it does take long u'r thermostat is stuck open.

I think that you should get some mech to look at you fan clutch as well, in most cases the main culprits for your symptoms are:

1) Thermostat
2) Fan Clutch
3) Old /bad hoses
4) Dirty/ corroded cooling system
5) Tired water pump?

Try replacing/checking them individually, rather than do everything in one go! Easier on the wallet and you get to know your car better in the process.

Cheers!

Mine would be before the second line front left. that means when the engine is off the needle will be in the left side. Start the car it will be just after the first line. heavy jam it will be at the second line no more then that.. never reached half...

low speed - slightly below half,
traffic jam - half,
high speed - in between quater & half..

Eujax,

bought ur e30 ???

congrats !

Hi Kinaka, yes i bought my e30 m40 :) year 1990....pictures will come later. Thanks for the wish.

i think you should follow kevster30 checklists

My ex-e30 was at mid-point even the hottest and worst traffic jam.........

after changing to new water pump, it never touches the mid point !!!

Hi guys,

My is always one line below half.
Heavy jam - half.

Once go above half, I will send for checking.

Once experience jam,it goes above half. Send to Optima. Just air check cond fan switch and the themostart that control the air cond fan. ( provided all other in the radiator systems is well working)

If the fans in can switch to high fan at high temp. It return to normal.
