Hi Sifu..Need your help to know what is this for? Is this the control for our idle speed?Hope sifu sifu here can help.

geoffrey, i dont think that is the ICV, will try to take a pic tomorrow on my ICV and post here to share. I have complained to my mech b4 saying that sometimes my idle is not smooth, something like the engine wanna die off. The he dismantles the ICV to clean it, the car felt better after that but now it comes back again. Dunno whats wrong also, maybe will have it checked again when i got the time to see them.

by the way, which year is your car manufactured? urs is e36 318? i read somewhere u mentioned that u have cruise control? gee....how come mine dont have. mine is manufactured in 1997

ICV is part no. 8 in the diagram below.

Huh?? My car is 1997 also and no cruise control, only have manual cruise control (my right foot la) ahhaa

If thats not the ICV whats that? Also how much it cost for you to service your ICV? Where you have it serviced?

Looking forward to see your pic of ur car's ICV.

Thanks

haha coz if ur car got cruise control and mine tak ada then i am gonna go back and ask the previous owner ahha. Well ok its late now but i try to snap a pic later to load it here and show the ICV. My had my ICV serviced by my workshop, FOC coz that guy only needs to dismantle it and clean it with airgun. It only took him 10 min. Some mech wont do it coz time consuming and they rather do something else which can demand owner to pay $ :)

I understand from another mechanic that the AFM also can be serviced and cleansed with WD40....1 day when i am free i might go down to semenyih to look for my mechanic-cum-friend. Currently not sending my car to his workshop coz he cant reset the service light.

oh yes...that is the ICV. Now you are in deep sh.it.

Its the throttle cable la.

Don't mess with that throttle cable mounting, or it may need to calibrated back to neutral position.

Pictures from Russie,

see again..which one la?

zoggee i think the one circled up in red is the ICV coz my mech dismantled that to clean it. Or could it be i too blur that nite and see wrongly? haha i dunno ler

ok... here goes:

geoffreylee - your first picture is the throttle cable.

Part no. 8 i showed in my earlier diagram is the icv for pre-09/1995 cars.

aa.jpg and bb.jpg by russie is the electronic icv for post-09/1995 cars.

Maybe there's where the confusion is, there was a change by bmw after 09.1995.

The bigger one is ICV, the smaller one on it's left is TPS.

2 = TPS
9 = ICV (post 09/1995)

Yes the one that you've circled is the ICV.
TPS stands for Throttle Position Switch.

Geofrey...your throttle cables plastic bracket is broken la. Look at item no.6.

anuder picture for you to saviour....muahaha!!!:D

BMW ETK called it...IDLE CONTROL VALVE. item No.9

as for servicing it... Better dun. You think you know? At the early stage of owning your M43? Save the trouble and go to your workshop and let the mechs do the job la.

I saw the mec adjust that to increase the idle rpm.

Indeed that is the short cut route to fixing your problem.

That's exactly the same as keeping your foot on the accelerator all the time.

If you're happy then thats ok :rolleyes: but the mech should be shot. Twice. :)
