VIN Decoding

All E39 525i are M54

from what i understand (i stand corrected) somewhere mid 2000 the M52TU engine was replaced with the M54 engine. Yours being a 2001 model, i suppose it is safe to assume it is M54.

so, assuming if its a M54 engine, is the hp 192 ?

Also, anyone experience squeaking sound coming from the windows when u drive slow ? I have this irritating squeaking sound coming from the driver's window but it will go away if i just wind down the window even as little as 1 centimeter. I have been advised to use silicone to apply the rubber seals along the window doors. Is that the best way ?
