Hi Guys,I was told that my E34 (1995, Vanos, 24v) need an overhaul on its valve body (gearbox related). Does anyone know how much this could cost? Thanks

Someone must have stepped on the tail of that particular cat... hee hee. Don't know how much a valve body cost, never had to change mine... only changed my solenoids (but that itself cost a bomb).:(

Vanan,

I could be mistaken, but why change valve body?? Shouldn't you be looking at the solenoid valves (check each one) to make sure they're ok and just replace that?? Is your valve body damaged in any way??

Flash,

How much did you pay for the solenoids?? Just wondering...

hi mates,
here's what happen to my gal [in somewhat ways],well one should always go get a GT CHECK if there are sign in gears not changing in somepoints, dont SAVE on something like this! coz the GT will show. but you see it as a gearbox problem . and most mechanics will just tell you, change it.now that'll make his work easier and profiter, right.
NOW THIS IS WHAT I DID:>
when i first felt it,i got it checked and changed my selector switch [cheap],first. it was due anyway.
then the problem still stayed, then i did a GT check, it somewhat indicated it might be the valve body or solenoid, well my mechanic said he's got a few valve bodies[rebuilt not 2nd hand] with him and i should try it out.
well, for RM1200,I said why not,coz a rebuilt gearbox would mean me eating bread for months.
whaalah,now my baby flies,like it did b4.

whats my point,mates?
ALWAYS GET THE RIGHT MECHANIC'coz you could easily get screwed.

Sorry to interrupt. Sanjay NV, what does "GT" stand for in the GT check stand for?

mate,
sorry 4 not being clear enough. well it's a diagnostic machine/computer setup call GT1, its use 2check ur ie ECU to pin point problem and also reprogramme it.
a few dudes, around have gotit. u see there's a lot of these kind of systems around ie the basic like LAUNCH etc.
so,my mate viewfinder thats GT.

Thanks for the info, sanjay nv. Is Modic (spelling), the handheld mobile unit, as capable in the diagnostic? I wonder where in PG one can find the GT1.

mate,
not really sure about modic, but the handheld units might be suitable for earlier bm model [not sure].you see i need the GT1 for my e39 but the handheld LAUNCH is suitable for my wifey's e36.it depend on what ur ride is,mate.ur PG, is it short for penang?i'm sure there is,mate.

Modic 2 and 3 are adequate to diagnose car problems up to E39, e38 and e46. GT1 is usually used for the latest batch of cars like E60, E65 and E90.

Basically there is nothing to overhaul with a valvebody, basically some springs and small little pistons (if I may call it). What is usually done, is to clean it properly (all the fluid chambers) and ensure the springs are still working effectively.

And the usual suspects are the solenoids. The modic 2 itself can show which solenoids is/are faulty. If got no modic, then use the old way....connect a 12V battery directly to each solenoid and try to hear the ticking/clicking sound, if there is any sound then its ok.

Dear ALBundy,

Thanks for the invaluable advice, I will take my ride to the mechs this coming weekend with your advice in mind.

Regards.
